Casper Skulls present their highly anticipated LP Kit-Cat on Next Door Records. Kit-Cat represents a new chapter for the Sudbury/Toronto indie rock band as they evolve their sound and embrace deeper collaboration in their new trio lineup with longtime friends Melanie St. Pierre-Bednis (guitar/bass/vocals), Neil Bednis (guitar/bass/vocals), and Fraser McClean (drums/bass).
Kit-Cat represents the culmination of Casper Skulls’ growth and transformation as a band. The album is an 11-track mosaic, capturing the band’s journey over recent years. With lyrics shaped by grief, lost relationships, and self-love, Kit-Cat also celebrates the deep connection between bandmates. Their ever-evolving lineup from track to track showcases the band’s true strength: collaboration.
Recorded over six days at Deadpan Studios in February 2024, the album reflects the band’s commitment to a collaborative approach. Husband-and-wife duo Melanie St. Pierre-Bednis and Neil Bednis share songwriting and vocal duties throughout the 11-track album, while drummer Fraser McClean plays a multi-instrumental role, also adding bass, guitar, keyboards, synths, and violin across the record. Lonely Parade guitarist Augusta Veno and engineer Matt Weiwel, a longtime friend of the band, lend contributions to elevate the album’s sonic depth.
The album’s artwork, painted by St. Pierre-Bednis, serves as a visual counterpart to its lyrical themes. Featuring a namesake “Kitty Cat” clock, a rural dirt road, and a ballet dancer in a luchador mask, the collage reflects the band’s playful yet poignant storytelling.
“We decided to make this album super fun with no expectations,” says Melanie. “That approach made the songs turn out even better.”
