YARD-ACT SUPPORT TOUR KICKS OFF NEXT MONTH

Gustaf, the Brooklyn no wave / post-punk band announced their debut album last month and now they are back with a double single and video for “Here Hair / Hard Hair.” The first is a brooding, slow-motion growl peppered by birdsong and stabbed by pinpricks of guitar, while its chaser, “Hard Hair,” is 45-second outburst of energy, invective and regret. The songs were produced and mixed by Erin Tonkon with initial production from Carlos Hernandez. Its accompanying video directed by the band’s own Lydia Gammill, features the band wigged out among heart shaped hair brushes and roses.

You will be hooked on this mesmeric ensemble, a track that shifts to this delirious setting and showcases the addictive quality of each musician uniting their collective power.

Alternating the time signatures, the tempo, the intensity and keeping the listener completely hooked on the journey throughout. When the intensity shifts and peaks, Gustaf quickly parks that moment of fierce energy, reverting to the melodious plod, the softer passages, alternating once more to the bolting dynamics and back to gentle. Heading to this immense rush and ardent colossal collision of power, sustained hits, and lashing of rhythmic notes, the vision has it all. Throughout this gripping adventure that Gustaf delivers, they manage to lace and align their immense character in each element.

Package 2, which arrives 5th April via Royal Mountain Records is Gustaf’s first album since 2021’s Audio Drag for Ego Slobs, which nabbed the band a Beck cosign, tours with Idles, Sleaford Mods, and Yard Act, and critical acclaim. The album continues the endlessly fascinating world-building exercise of its forbearer. Where Audio Drag for Ego Slobs confronted the struggle to deal with the narrators surroundings, finding ways to behave in a way where their emotions and actions didn’t alienate most everyone, Package Pt. 2 becomes self-aware, wondering what they might change to make life, relationships, and love a little more manageable presented via a dizzying post-punk dream brought with an irrepressible energy with astounding vocal performances throughout. With Package Pt. 2, Gustaf is in full command of a lineage that radiates from obvious touchstones like the B-52s and Talking Heads to DNA and Teenage Jesus and the Jerks. The album was produced by Erin Tonkon, who worked on David Bowie’s Blackstar, the album was recorded at Studio G Brooklyn and Circular Ruin.
