Faux Real Announce Debut Album “Faux Ever” due May 24th via City Slang & Share New Single “Rent Free”

February 8, 2024

Visionary art-pop duo Faux Real once again expand their sonic horizons with their new single, “Rent Free,” available now via City Slang Records. The song arrives alongside an official music video – directed, produced, styled, and edited by FauxReal.

In “Rent Free”, hope flirts with despair, and the rain makes way for the rave,” say Faux Real’s Virgile and Elliott Arndt. “It’s a euphoric lament on the fragility of love, and the solace of dancing with total abandon.

Faux Real has created this infectious and utterly explosive release. It’s destined to hook you from the first electronic textures that burst into the landscape with this unapologetic hit, the track then shifts through various passages and alternates the vocal harmonies, the electronic cadence unites with this euphoric European pop push and every element screams with this bold stance. Faux Real have dropped a hit. This air of freedom, confidence and complexity all ooze from this ensemble, it very much captures a visionary touch.

Marked by bold guitars, glitchy software, and an infectious Europop beat, “Rent Free” heralds Faux Real’s long-awaited debut album, Faux Ever, arriving at last via City Slang on May 24 2024. A self-described “11-piece symphony for head-banging and longing,” Faux Ever sees Faux Real – a.k.a. the Los Angeles-based Franco-American brothers Elliott and Virgile Arndt – once again playing on the outskirts of language and sound, exploring themes of heartbreak, labour, and the home with harmonies and humour, playful beats and en franglais. Recorded between Paris, New York, London, Los Angeles, and Provence, Faux Ever thrusts the duo’s sultry, surreal, and unclassifiable sound towards a glossier pop horizon, an existential sonic pastiche with a glistening digital sheen.

We’re always questioning things and turning them upside down,” says Elliott Arndt.

Our sound has never been more personal,” says Virgile Arndt. “The method to this specific madness has been one of constant change, with our studio locale never fixed, always more minimal than the last. Faux Ever is a reflection on art, brotherhood, authenticity, faults and triumphs.

Faux Ever was first heralded last Autumn with the album’s first single, Faux Maux.” Hailed by France’s Les Inrockuptibles as “a singular musical experience… as flamboyant as it is daring,” the track was joined by a self-directed official music video, featuring cinematography by longtime collaborator Léo Schrepel (Phoenix, Etienne Daho).

Known far and wide for their DIY, Iggy Pop-meets-Eurodance live performances, Faux Real will celebrate Faux Ever with an international schedule that includes dates in Paris, Berlin, London, and Austin, TX., with more dates on the horizon. In May the duo will appear at The Great Escape, Brighton (15-18 May) and at London’s Wide Awake Festival (25 May). Faux Real have also been confirmed to play at Wide Awake Festival’s Pre-Party at Moth Club in London on 6 March.
