Continuing our annual tradition, we speak to the lovely people in Flannel Gurl Records. For those unaware Flannel Gurl Records are a great DIY label with a lot of love and even more talented artists. Flannel Gurl was started in 2010 by Jonathan and Kimmi to record and release music created by artists in Southwest, VA and beyond. To this day they are one of the most underrated labels but also one of the best. They’ve had a momentous year signing more acts and releasing some fantastic albums. We hand over to Kimmi  to find out more about the labels year in music..

Top 5 releases of the year

Shellac – Dude Incredible

I’ve always enjoyed this band and when I found out they were putting out a new album after 7 years I was totally stoked. Jonathan bought this for me for my birthday and I’ve been listening to it nonstop. I’m a sucker for heavy bass lines and this album is just all out awesome.
Restorations – LP3

Jonathan and I fully agree on this one.. It’s just good rock n’ roll.
Perfect Pussy – Say Yes To Love
PP-500x500
How can you not like this album?
The best gig you have attended
Sinai Vessel / Empire! Empire! in Charlotte, NC – It was our second time seeing Sinai Vessel and our first time seeing Empire! Empire!. We were both pretty sleepy because it was a bit of a trek for us, but it was fun nonetheless. Now that I think of it, I think that was the only show we went to that we didn’t book this year besides for one other local show.
Label Highlights of the year
Releasing The Caution Children’s LP – Safe Crusades/No Judgements/And Baby
Releasing Trust Fall‘s debut LP – Secret Keeper
Releasing CityCop‘s Loner
Working with Sinai Vessel and releasing Profanity on vinyl.
Announcing our working relationship with Nashville’s Gnarwhal
Artist/Band to watch for 2015
Gnarwhal, not because we are working with them (which is a huge plus) but because they are an awesome two piece who seem to work hard at what they do. Their music is great and I don’t think there is anything out there like it. They have ambition and you can’t listen to their music and not think it’s good.
Plans for the New Year
Releasing Gnarwhal‘s debut 12″ – Shinerboy, along with some other unannounced things.
A huge thank you to Flannel Gurl Records, we wish you all the best for next year and no doubt will be promoting your awesome releases!
