Continuing our Rad Releases are good friends and talented trio Pipedream. Tom, BT (Josh) and Harry comprise the outfit which are influenced by 90′s emo with a bit of Jawbreaker and Mock Orange within that influential mix. Together they provide captivating hooks and a dirty deliverance, true to their 90′s prominence. The band have had another rewarding year following the release of April Showers, a 2 track tape release on the lovely What We Should Be Doing. The band have had a handful of fantastic gigs and we had the pleasure in hanging out with Josh at the Jealous Lovers Club Microfestival earlier this year. We now hand over to Josh to find out his year in music…

Top 5 releases this year.

1.    Boston manor – Driftwood

In my opinion there are only 2 uk “pop punk” bands worth caring about. These guys are definitely in that 2. Great lyrics and beyond catchy tunes all over this EP. Think this EP means theyre gonna have an amazing 2015

2.    Nathan Detroit – Peace of mind

Nathan-Detroit-Peace-Of-Mind-cover

This is the other band in that 2 uk “pop punk” bands worth caring about bracket. A bit of a change compared to their previous efforts but that’s not a bad thing by any means. Its like the best part of every new found glory record rolled into one. Great EP

3.    Goodtime boys – Rain

Goodtime Boys

I’d been waiting on this record since the day it was announced and its lived up to my expectations. These dudes work stupidly hard at this band and this record is like a big payoff as its an absolute ripper. Melodic and hard hitting all at once. Brilliant. One of the only albums i’ve properly spun alot this year.

4.    Deadlines – Steroid city

I feel slightly biast putting this in here purely because I helped these guys out on bass a little while back but it doesn’t matter. These guys are my favourite new Cardiff based band. This EP is excellent. A mix of jawbreaker, bangers and Dillinger four, I’ve actually managed to buy the tape twice without realizing. Probably my favourite release this year.

5.    Nai harvest – Hold open my head

Nai Harvest - Hold Open My Head

Nai harvest get better with every release. The songs on this EP are super catchy and the drums are excellent. It’s a change from the full length but I think it definitely shows them maturing as a band. Also it sounds like the cure. If you cant get behind that then we probably cant be friends.

Shoutouts also go out to releases from plaids, jaded, beezewax, the doublecross, the modern farewell, milk teeth, healing powers, DOE, creeper and homestead who released rad records.

The best show you have played this year

The best show we’ve played this year was probably our show in may with hindsights, milk teeth and boston manor in Manchester. It was the first time we’d played Manchester in like 2 years and the show was busy and everyone else killed it. It was just like one massive hangout with all of our friends. Other rad shows we had were with Doe in London at the start of the year and our show in brighton with deadlines, water canvas, new tusk and muskets.

The best gig you have attended

I shamefully haven’t been to loads of shows that we haven’t played this year but the Jealous lovers club microfest in Cardiff was really awesome. Really cool to see something like that on my doorstep. Nai harvest and hindsights in undertone Cardiff was also a really awesome show. Packed out 85 cap venue and seeing people loose their shit for both bands was amazing.

Highlights of your year

This is actually the easiest part of this haha. Our weekender with deadlines was a amazing. Getting to play shows for 4 days with some of our best friends was amazing and a great way to get back into being a band. Oh and we met a juggalo. Like legit. Releasing april showers was another ace moment as it’s the first music we’d made since harrys accident and was great to give people a preview of whats to come from our full length. Oh and playing a skatepark show. That’s like a bucket list item ticked off for me.

Artist/Band to watch for 2015

Boston manor – Touring with moose blood start of the year and can see them having a massive year off the back of it.

Forrest. – Releasing their first new record for like 2 years. Sounds huge. Massive B&C vibes.

Hindsights – Full length coming out. Should be massive. This year will hopefully bring some sick things their way.

Milk teeth – One of the best bands I saw last year. Believe the hype. This band will be absolutely huge in 2015

Plans for the New Year

As ever we’re pretty slack with super exact plans but here goes. We’re nearly finished with demoing our full length so should hopefully have that done by febuary. After that we’re gonna record it hopefully with our friend bob but nothing is 100% as of yet. We wanna try and get it out around the time of our 4th birthday / Toms 23rd / my 25th so april / may is our target. Then tour it hopefully with some awesome friends and just more shows, more merch and more jams.

A huge thank you to Josh and all of Pipedream, we are looking forward to hearing more from the trio and wish you all the best for next year!
