Adwaith Win The Welsh Music Prize 2022 For Sophomore Album “Bato Mato”- Out Now via Libertino Records

Last night we nervously waited for the results of this year’s Welsh Music Prize, a list of the most stellar artists and their cherished releases of the year. At about 9.30 pm yesterday evening, the winners were announced.

Welsh post-punk three-piece Adwaith have won the Welsh Music Prize 2022 for their sophomore album ‘Bato Mato’, released earlier this year via Libertino.

The triumph sees the Carmarthen trio of Hollie SingerGwenllian Anthony and Heledd Owen become the first act to win the prize for the second time, having previously scooped 2019’s award for their debut album ‘Melyn’.

Past editions have seen albums by Gruff Rhys, Gwenno and Boy Azooga win, with last year’s award being given to Kelly Lee Owens.

On receiving the prize the band said, “We really did not expect it and we feel very honoured and are eternally grateful!”

They continued, “Llongyfarchiadau to everyone who was nominated, it’s such a strong line up this year and we feel very proud to be a part of this wave of amazing Welsh artists breaking through!”

A huge congratulations to Adwaith and the Adwaith musical family.
