Ahead of his forthcoming debut EP White Ink, due for release this Friday August 21st through Vital Music, John J. Presley has revealed a new music video for ‘Sweet Superstition’.

In homage to memories bleak and battered, the track sees Presley coming to terms with loss, death and relentless bad news as his molasses-thick vocal simmers over a Travis-picked Hofner guitar growl, delving deeper further into John’s trademark doom-blues repertoire.

Citing Son House’s Mississippi Delta blues and Mogwai’s dissonant tunings and drones as influences in equal measure, Presley’s no-frills approach to the blues is rooted in his distinguished record collection and penchant for vintage guitars, approaching the White Ink session heavily armed with a Tele, Hofner and Gibson all frying through his trusted Wem Dominator amp.

Opting to record the EP completely live and true, John J. Presley has crafted his most unprecedented work to date. With tube amps cooking hot and inspiration flowing fast, White Ink was captured in a single 8-hour run at Toe Rag Studios with Liam Watson (The White Stripes, The Kills, Tame Impala) whilst on a rare break from tour. (The White Stripes, The Kills, Tame Impala).

The live set up for the recording of White Ink was: John J Presley (guitar and vocals), Tom Glendining (kit) and Danielle Perry (Harmonium, Fender Rhodes, backing vocals).

Aside from being Duke Garwood’s go-to guitarist when on the road, to date John J. Presley has supported The Jim Jones Revue on their ‘Last Hurrah’ tour across Europe, teamed with blues upstarts Kill It Kid on their UK stint earlier this year, graced the BBC Introducing Stage at Reading & Leeds 2014 as well as recent headline tour dates across the UK. Catch him live later this year.
