Few things are as rewarding as a long-term creative collaborations. The longstanding bounds these relationships foster can be some of the most meaningful in life. Safety is a band born from just this kind of artistic alliance, between Andy Diaz (guitar / vocals) and Grayum Vickers (bass / vocals).
Diaz and Vickers first joined forces while still in high school in Tampa, Florida, creating the first incarnation of what would become Safety when both were just 14 years old. Within a short amount of time, the band released their debut EP, “A Season of Bad Dreams,” in September 2008. Hungry to take their music to listeners beyond their hometown, Safety embarked on a number of tours, including runs throughout the U.S. and Eastern Canada, and eventually teamed with emerging, New Orleans-based indie label Community Records to release their 2012 “Night Lights” EP.
Presented with the open path in front of them that comes from leaving adolescence, Diaz and Vickers opted to relocate to Brooklyn, New York, soon thereafter recruiting Nick Dolan (drums) to round out the group in their latest form. Wasting no time, the band set to writing and recording their newest effort, the superb “Congratulate Me, I’ve Lost My Mind” EP. Brimming with well crafted, emotionally potent songwriting, the EP defies classification with music that is evocative of indie rock, emo, and pop punk without succumbing wholly to any of those genres’ tropes. “Congratulate Me, I’ve Lost My Mind” distinctively marks a new level of clarity and prowess in the evolution of Safety‘s sound.
“Congratulate Me, I’ve Lost My Mind” by Safety will be released on August 14th, 2015 via Community Records.
