Stuart Pearce Returns With New Single “Dances w/Starships” & B-Side “Cigarette Olympics”

At the end of March last year, Stuart Pearce released their sophomore album “All This Vast Overproduction”, and through the immense 15-track release, the outfit ended their record with the single “Dances w/Starships”- a fitting final track that stays with you.
There is a known unpredictable edge with this captivating outfit, firstly through their sound and vision and secondly through their surprise release drops. Always keeping the fans on their toes, Stuart Pearce has now released a new video for the single “Dances w/Starships“, and given a new lease of life with the incredible stop-motion animated video by Yorkshire-based artist Sam Selley. Then, accompanying the release and video comes a brand new track and B-side, “Cigarette Olympics”, and we are joyous to start a new year with new material from Stuart Pearce.
“Dances w/Starships” is described as musically drawing on equal parts contemporary Alternative Rock and the more whimsical side of 60s Psychedelia, with its accompanying horns and acoustic guitars, paired with lyrics based around our narrators’ musings following multiple failed attempts at unionising the contemporary workforce.
The track immediately rolls into its formation and throws the audience directly into the abrasive soundscape. The track exudes gritty tonality and melodic vocal notes, fusing with the brooding guitar lead rhythm. As the drum shuffles and bright high-hat hits increase, the low-end chugs with the addictive vocal harmonies, and the track forges a path through muddy peaks and slower breakdowns. Working it’s quick and animated way to shine a light on the choral-like, infectious vocal layers that completely capture the vivid energy of this outfit.
The b-side “Cigarette Olympics” has been produced in a more intimate setting for Stuart Pearce; the rehearsal room of beloved Nottingham institution of DIY culture JT Soar, to be precise. Recorded in a fit of energy during Summer ‘24, “Cigarette Olympics” features Nat Mason on all instruments straight to 8 tracks of cassette, in a homage to LoFi Indie-Rock and the Cancer industry we’ve all supported at some point.
The track embraces a darker and more moody atmosphere, commencing with the scratchy guitar and the tantalising bass line that gives nod to the legendary Peter Hook. Twisting that bass line with the emphasised and elevated vocal harmonies repeating the song title. This track offers an immediately iconic session, a quick burst of lo-fi vocal notes and crisp percussive hits. You’ll be singing this one back from the first listen.
