Squid Announce UK and EU Tour Supports
Including Blue Bendy, Clarissa Connelly, Naima Bock and more
Squid have announced the support acts for their upcoming UK and EU headline O Monolith tours. Including main touring support from Blue Bendy, Clarissa Connelly and Naima Bock. Tickets available to buy HERE.
The main support for UK and Ireland is London based, art-rock six piece Blue Bendy. The experimental outfit released their acclaimed debut EP Motorbike in 2022 and have since released standout single ‘Cloudy’ garnering support from Pitchfork and FADER, as well as being tipped as ‘ones to watch’ earlier this year by The Guardian.
Squid are also joined by Ichigo Evil opening shows in Bristol, Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester. In a recent Guardian piece, Squid described Ichigo Evil as “The mad combination of The Evil Usses and the alt-pop and performance art of Ichi, a homemade inventor of all things weird and wonderful from Nagoya in Japan.”
In both Belfast and Dublin the opening set comes from Irish band M(h)aol. Their raw and uncompromising 2023 debut album Attachment Styles was praised for taking on themes of trauma, identity and healing, sung over a mix of visceral post-punk and cathartic hardcore.
Starting the EU tour in main support is Scottish/Danish artist Clarissa Connelly. Clarissa’s 2018 debut album Tech Duinn aimed to in-differentiate the synthetic from the organic, blending sounds together with songs inspired by ancient Celtic myth. Her 2020 album The Voyager was praised by Wire for its compositional intricacies and storytelling, as well as winning the Nordic Music Prize at by:Larm – making her the first Danish artist to win the prize. Since then Clarissa has supported Jenny Hval across the UK & EU.
Midway through the EU leg of the tour, starting in Leipzig, main support comes from Naima Bock. From being a founding member of Goat Girl, Naima took some time out from music before returning with her stunning debut album Giant Palm, released in 2022 by Sub Pop. The album was well received by press around the world, from Pitchfork to Uncut, with Stereogum making it their album of the week and Loud and Quiet championing Giant Palm as “one of 2022’s best albums”.
With a reputation for being one of the best live acts in the country, Squid’s incendiary show is life affirming in the best way possible. Squid released their sophomore album O Monolith earlier this year to critical acclaim, praised for its intricate rhythms, irresistible grooves and expansive songwriting. Buy O Monolith here
