pyncher sign to Heist or Hit and release new single “One Day“
Manchester risers pyncher announce their signing to cult label Heist or Hit (Westside Cowboy, Her’s, ladylike) and release thrilling new single ‘One Day’.
‘One Day’ comes off the back of an acclaimed set at BBC 6 Music Festival in Manchester and ahead of a tour supporting The Sophs across the UK and Europe, before festival appearances through the summer.
Translating the ferocious reputation the band have developed live, ‘One Day’ crackles with static-electricity, at once urgent and wistful. It rushes the ears with a thick smack of layered vocals before detonating into three minutes of blown-out guitars and crushed drum machine pulses. Written during a period of obsession with drum-machine-driven records by The Strokes, the fuzzed-out vocals of Ty Segall and the rawness of Neutral Milk Hotel, the track became a playground for white heat saturation and experiments in distortion.
Those textures were ultimately realised by producer Alex Greaves at The Nave in Leeds. During a break in sessions, a broken pedal stumbled upon by guitarist Harvey O’Toole produced the song’s obscurely fried, addictive solo. Lyrically, vocalist Sam Blakeley explains:
“The song is about people growing apart. And how you can’t really do much to stop it happening. There’s longing in the lines but also acceptance. We all change and grow and I think this song is me getting my head around that.”
Pyncher has produced an absolute hit. A track that feels vibrant and gritty simultaneously, this outfit has such an addictive energy that they’ve managed to capture with ease throughout the new single. Raucous and completely exhilarating from start to finish, whilst giving this timeless flair.
The quartet find themselves as a central part of a revitalised Manchester music scene – falling in with Westside Cowboy, TTSSFU, Martial Arts and more in drawing eyes to the city. Press backing in from The Guardian, DIY, So Young, The Line of Best Fit and more, alongside spins with BBC 6 Music highlight a band on the rise.
