HONK are a genre-warping party here to rewire ideas of country music. It’s called Trashcan Country – a raucous, rough-edged twist on twang that’s dragged through the back alleys of punk, doused in garage-rock grit and left out to dry in the blazing sun.
Closing Down Sale, the follow up EP to their debut Grand Opening EP, drops this August, released digitally and on cassette via Leeds label Shooting Tzars. HONK also have a run of gigs across the UK this summer, with appearances at Deer Shed Festival, Label Mates and Rotterdam’s Left of The Dial. Full dates below…
Along with the EP announcement, the band share strident new single “Vine-Glo”, celebrating the US prohibition-era home brew.
They say of the song: “Vine-glo was a dissolvable brick of grape juice concentrate sold in the US during prohibition. Sold with the tagline “legal in your home” the packet warned that the grapes may ferment into alcohol and provided instructions that explained very carefully how to prevent fermentation by also giving hints on exactly what was required to successfully ferment the grapes into wine. Because not all superhero’s wear capes.”
