JIAL Returns With New Single and Video
“If We Could Talk (Live at Slide Records)”
Our good friend and multi-instrumentalist JIAL is back with the first new solo music released in a few years. The new single “If We Could Talk (Live At Slide Records)” is out now on all platforms and is joined by a new video.
JIAL is the project of musician and producer Joshua Lamdin. A musician and more of a family member of Circuit Sweet; an artist we’ve been able to sit back and watch as his incredible skills develop over the years and an artist who is continuously on the road in so many different outfits. Every year Josh has developed his writing techniques, his understanding of playing and composing, his ability to record and produce and his experience within studio set-ups, touring, the festival circuit you name it. Known for his talents in the likes of Aulos, Last Tree Squad, Ben Tunnicliffe‘s Nowhere Ensemble, playing alongside Meg Wassell, as well as his own solo performances and releases- we are so thrilled to see a new release from JIAL which is out today.
Of the new single, JIAL comments:
I wrote this song in April/May 2024 in the run-up to my album recording session. The weeks were running thin, but I felt I really needed one more solo acoustic piece to finish up the track listing. The idea of forcing something together short notice that would feel anything but contrived seemed ambitious and in complete opposition to my approach on the rest of the songs. The goal was to try and open a more pragmatic conversation with the instrument. Rather than trying to impose my ideals of what music I wanted to hear and what it should contain, as felt I had in other projects, what songs did the guitar have to show me at this point?
However, it would not play itself. Maybe some 2 weeks before the session, in one of many nights searching at the acoustic, I think I stumbled upon the first note of the melody, the chord, and the ostinato all at once. The song then came like following a trail, one idea leading inevitably to the next. Less like I was composing and more like I was remembering something I’d long forgotten.
Fast forward to January this year, and an opportunity to make a video came along, but a location and audio recording would be needed. Having just met Lucas and becoming aware of Slide, it seemed like a no brainer to record this song again now that it was much more under my fingers.
The new single which is streaming below was recorded, mixed & mastered at Slide Records by Will Bassett & Lucas Loftus. With a music video out today and accompanying the release, which was filmed and edited by Richárd Kovács.
There is something so extremely touching that you can embrace in the depth of JIAL‘s intricate guitar playing. The emotion that resonates from the tone and the complexity of the playing; it simply leaves you in awe. A striking new release that captures this ambitious atmosphere using experimental rhythms and this affectionate cadence.
This captivating single which is relayed in the performance film above, delivers a courageous and dramatic ensemble that proudly carries the musician developing this challenging world that ultimately moves the listener. Whilst you are hooked on the vastness of the instrument and the intensity of the layers, the track captures the musician pushing themselves to fall deeper and deeper into this bed of complexity which results in showcasing the strength one musician can capture whilst in their element.
Lose yourself within JIAL’s bold orchestration and appreciate the power of this vital release, a welcome return!
