Eades release new single ‘Did You Read The News?’
Announce 2nd Album Final Sirens Call via Breakfast Records on 18th September and Headline Tour in October
– For a long time, Eades were a band of heavy nights and distant days. Carving an unsteady line between classic post-punk and beer-drenched art rock, their debut 2022 album Delusion Spree embraced the hedonistic rattle of their hometown Leeds, each track humming with youthful anxiety and reinvention. Not only did it earn them well-deserved plaudits from the UK press, including NME, Line Of Best Fit, Clash and So Young, but it also became the beating heart of their raucous live sets, as they toured relentlessly throughout the continent.
Yet beneath this turbulence was always a mercurial attention to their roots and influences, manifesting itself in a careful control of the recording process from start to finish. As the ashes kicked up by their debut began to settle, Eades began to find a new-found growth amidst the rubble of their youth. This was none so clear than on their last EP, 2024’s Fight Or Flight, which channelled traditional Americana and the creative values of mid 90’s indie, resulting in the clearest expression yet of the storytelling partnership between lead vocalists, Harry Jordan and Tom O’Reilly. It once again saw them rack up glowing reviews, from DORK Magazine to The Guardian and lead to recording sessions at Abbey Road Studios.
Now, with the arrival of their second album, Final Sirens Call, this growth is placed front and centre. Although its eleven tracks still hum with the same frenetic energy, the record sees the Eades quintet dive ever deeper into their roots, finding a rare solace amidst the shifting earth. Lead single ‘Did You Read The News?’ – out now – perfectly captures this spirit, its titular question becoming a way for lyricist O’Reilly to reflect on not only their disappearing self, but also their very identity as a musician and the socio-political anger that so often bubbled to the surface in their early work. As O’Reilly states:
“Did You Read The News? is about living on autopilot, floating through the day to day of life without letting the constantly changing world have a significant impact on me. That being said, when writing these lyrics, I did set myself the goal of writing something more melody driven, with the lyrical narrative taking a back seat. Treating the verses as almost their own chorus, and not slipping into the creative hole of trying to force everything to be an attempt at a profound piece of writing. Sometimes the shape of the words can convey a more important feeling than the written content.”
Eades are just impactful, always have been. Now they are on this new journey with their second album and the lead single reflects their growth as a band, united and ready to bring their voice to the forefront. This band mix melody, raucous rock and addictive rhythms and tones, their energy is captivating!
This return feels almighty, the new album will be one of the most essential for 2025.
Beyond this songwriting growth, the last year also saw Eades find a new home in Bam Bam Studios, owned and operated by Jordan himself. With a new professional space, and ever-growing arsenal of production equipment, the band found themselves for the first time able to keep up with their recording ambitions. ‘Did You Read The News?’ highlights this newfound creative freedom, an expansive, double drum kit led track that echoes the ‘wall of sound’ textures in classic 60’s recordings, replete with vintage reverb and orchestral flourishes. Jordan, helming production on the track, says:
“A lot has changed for us as a band since making our first album. We’ve grown as people as well as a band and we feel much more assured on who we are and what we are trying to create. This is the first time we’ve been able to work in a professional recording environment which has given us the freedom to expand our sound and think about our arrangement from a fresh perspective. For the first time we brought our friends Tom Kettleton and Simon Skitch to play saxophone and harmonica which has helped take our sound further than before. This is something we have experimented with a lot across the album and this new direction is something we are really proud of. There’s a lot of statement tracks and we can’t wait to release them out into the world.”
With several more singles planned ahead of the release of Final Sirens Call ahead of its release on the 18th September, Eades have left themselves space to spread this quiet confidence far and wide. Each track speaks of a band fully in control of their future and willing to embrace the changing times. Having previewed many already across their UK and EU tours over the last year, they’re already looking forward to their next run of dates at the end of the year, where audiences can witness in full the band’s new ambitious direction and even glimpse the shores beyond.
