Shares cinematic new video for “Devices”
UK and EU live dates next year
New album ‘Infinite Health’ out now on Ninja Tune
Following a premiere on Shibuya TV with showings on screens across Tokyo, today Tycho shares his new video for track “Devices”, taken from his recent album ‘Infinite Health’. The video comes as Tycho announces Japanese tour dates in addition to the previously announced UK and European shows for next year.
The cinematic video was shot in Japan, directed by Jamie-James Medina (The xx, FKA Twigs, SAMPHA) and stars Annie the Clumsy from Apple TV+’s Sunny with Rashida Jones.
Speaking on the clip, Medina comments: “You could argue that dreams are the final frontier of self. An almost unknown universe that exists entirely in our own mind. But in Japan, neuroscientists have developed a program they believe can accurately decode people’s dreams. It is tedious, but fascinating work: subjects are monitored over 200 sleeps, strapped with electrodes that record their nocturnal brain waves and awoken to describe their thoughts. These tests were used to form a database of keywords and images that appeared in their dreams and compared with brain activity recorded during the subjects waking life.
I am not somebody that remembers their dreams with any accuracy. But this research — to monitor and reveal our internal picture of ourselves — felt so cinematic to me. Tycho trusted me with his music. And the incredible Annie the Clumsy let us bring her unconscious mind to life on screen. It was a dream to collaborate with both of these artists and the teams in Japan and New York.”
Tycho’s Scott Hansen adds: “I’ve always thought of Devices as a very cinematic song and felt the visual component needed to connect with it as deeply as possible. When I read Jamie’s treatment I immediately knew his vision would compliment the song perfectly. I also loved that he wanted to shoot the video in Japan, a place that has long inspired me as an artist. Seeing the final product I am overwhelmed by the beauty and emotion Jamie has captured. A great music video should elevate the music with new purpose and meaning, with Devices I believe Jamie has done exactly that. I am thrilled with the results and feel honored to see one of my songs interpreted in this way.”
An upbeat meditation on optimism for the future, ‘Infinite Health’ is the captivating and intimate sixth album by the project of celebrated San Francisco songwriter, musician and producer Scott Hansen, out nowvia Mom + Pop Records in the U.S. and Ninja Tune in the rest of the world.
Touring these songs for the first time, the Tycho live band will kick off 2025 with two shows in Japan. Later in the year they kick off their European dates with a show at London’s iconic KOKO, before heading across mainland Europe for the first time in 5 years.
