Berlin-based Curses makes dark, romantic, cinematic New Wave, threading the visceral connection between 1980’s inspired Goth and melancholic post-punk to the DIY energy of early electronic body music. Having just signed to Italians Do It BetterCurses is sharing new single “Elegant Death”.On the new track, Curses said: “Elegant death. Death has a looming, dark reputation, it’s always there, but embracing the elegance in its romantic ceremony, and aesthetic of funerals in Italy is something that has always captured me. Especially being raised half Italian between NYC and Sicily.  There is a beauty in the legacy of a person’s story that death leaves behind. The power of a new chapter, shedding old skin to discover a new.

In the last few years, I’ve had to face the reality that all of us eventually die. I’ve lost many friends, family members have passed, and overcoming the fear of death has allowed me to appreciate the present, the importance of now, creating life memories through music, to be remembered beyond when that time comes to eventually say goodbye.”

The dark bass notes that emerge signal the darkness of the song title, but the atmosphere challenges more than the brooding notes, the landscape evolves with this sultry synth tones and looping notes, the vocal harmonies echo in the commanding structure and immediately the audience is hooked.

As the ensemble develops and expands with the consistent layering of the tones and textures, this prominent late 70’s early 80’s synth new-wave influence starts to mould this creation, whilst the vocal notes repeat the touching lyrics, the emotion of this ensemble multiplies, a truly hypnotic and moving arrangement with such a powerful attention to detail.

With 2 full-length albums on Dischi Autunno, Curses has also released a limited edition LP on Paris fashion brand, Saint Laurent, and original music in video campaigns for Dior, and Raf Simons/Calvin Klein. A new album is due out later this year via legendary synth label Italians Do It Better, soaked in the signature Curses’ ghostly guitars and haunting vocals.

Curses has also released on labels such as Permanent Vacation, Bordello A Parigi, Oráculo Records, and Wrong Era, and is responsible for curating the vinyl compilation series, NEXT WAVE ACID PUNX, Via Belgian powerhouse, N.E.W.S, showcasing a passion for New Beat, Early EBM, Post-punk and obscure Italo which gained critical acclaim worldwide.
