Anna Prior Announces Debut EP Almost Love for June 13th via House Anxiety

Shares New Single ‘Fall Back’ With New Video (dir. Tom Furse of The Horrors)

DJ, producer and drummer Anna Prior announces new EP Almost Love for release on June 13th via House Anxiety (Genesis Owusu, Courtney Barnett, Harvey Sutherland), with new single ‘Fall Back’, out now and accompanied with AI directed video from Tom Furse

The Metronomy drummer teamed up for the EP with producers including James Greenwood (AKA Ghost Culture) whose previous credits include Dan Avery, Kelly Lee Owens, HAAi and Alison Goldfrapp, Lisbon based producer Moullinex, and PPJ – Trio Páula, Povoaand Jerge who have collaborated with the likes of Christine and the Queens and Myd

New single ‘Fall Back’ follows Anna’s percussive approach to electronic music, which is an extension of her crate-digging Soho Radio show – The Beat Palace (also the name of the label she founded championing female and non-binary DJs and producers) She describes her DJ sets as ‘explorative missions into the rhythmic unknown…’, and the hooky pop sensibilities come from a ‘90s musical education – with the synth lead instrumentation equally recalling the 80s and mid 2000s.

The sparkly vocals of the single lend a yearning quality, encouraging you to lose (or perhaps find) yourself in the dreamy beats, yet picks you back up again with its classic dancefloor energy.  Rather than reject that pull to pop, Anna embraces it. What emerges is an upbeat yet ethereal mix that leads with percussion and takes groove to the club.

Often exploring personal sentiments, Anna explains the themes behind the track:
“The song is about when I realised that love from a partner is never unconditional. I think it’s where my lack of trust in relationships began, when my hyper independence began and when I started searching for people that I knew could never love me so I would never get hurt again.”

Anna drops this absolute banger, a dancefloor classic already and one of the most intoxicating releases of the year. The single delivers this blissful brilliance by shaping the complex yet disco-fuelled landscape with this stunning range of gentle vocal harmonies sweeping through the synth sounds to deliver this tropical electro-pop euphoria.

Lyrically inspired by the existential poetry of 19th and 20th century Portuguese romantics, which she discovered during treasured time spent in Lisbon, this latest EP is essentially Anna’s love letter to herself. She describes it as being about things, people and moments being just out of reach – of ‘almost’ being there, but not just yet. Not quite.

Fall Back’ comes with the second A.I. Tom Furse directed video – furthering a creative partnership that is building out Anna’s aesthetic world. A new set of press shots in collaboration with Daniel Mutton (photographer) and Morgan Hislop (creative director) also treads a consistent visual line.

Anna says: “I wanted the two videos that Tom made to somehow link together- the characters he created in the Tech Não video felt like friends to me by this point – so I wanted this video to feel like I’d stepped into ‘room two’ of the club, everything shining, glittering and clean. The antithesis to the anxiety inducing ‘main room’ of Tech Não.”

Live set highlights have come in support of 2manydjs in Paris, Palm Trax in Lisbon, as well as at Latitude, Spiritland, and on NYCs fabled The Lot Radio.
