Share new single & video “Weavers’ Weft”
Album ‘ILION’ out January 19th on Sub Pop
UK tour dates this Spring

On the 19th of January, French psychedelic rock outfit SLIFT will release their Sub Pop debut, ILION’, on CD/LP/DSP. Today, following the previously released singles “Ilion” and “Nimh,” comes a third and final pre-release single and official video by Guthio and Alexis Regidor with visuals by Dimitri Thouzery for the album’s centrepiece, “Weavers’ Weft.”
The band shares this about the song: “‘Weavers’ Weft’ is the song that opens the album’s second half. There was a tipping point in the narrative at the end of the first half of the album. The second half of the record is no longer situated in the linear flow of time that serves as a backdrop for many stories. From ‘Weavers’ Weft’ onwards, time goes both into the past and into the future. The piece talks about weavers of the fabric of time, entities who continually create space-times, each containing its share of universes. Everything that exists is written there, and it is possible to travel between frames. Everything is cyclical and infinite. To illustrate this (or maybe it’s the other way around?), we wanted something monolithic and timeless. It is as if this song has been sung for millennia (time goes back to the past!). The heavier parts are inspired by bands like Part Chimp and Gnod.”

SLIFT have perfected the art of these monolithic arrangements. Immediately you feel like you are in the midst of this story as “Weavers’Weft” embarks on its journey, you’ll be hooked in the depth of the rhythms before more attributes thread into the landscape and further develop this colossal creation. This track keeps on giving, there is this unruly depth to the vision, it grows, expands, ascends into chaos and then realigns back to this immersive structure.

As “Weavers’ Weft” moves with more traction into its mighty landscape, the deep vocal notes emerge and reflect this almost satanic formation, the notes cry through the structure and add this distinct character to the complexity of their vivid ensemble. Then a quick shift in the intensity and the energy and the drum kit scatters into focus with this enigmatic push.

This track continues to plunge from these cryptic craters of immense instrumentation and brooding bursts of whaling feedback and experimental tweaks before shimmering tones play into focus softening the journey with subtle nods to calmness through the valley of the aggressive hits.

SLIFT will embark on a mammoth UK & EU tour this Spring. The band’s 2023 KEXP performance is a tantalising taste of the band’s live powers, which merge earth-rattling volume, cosmic soundscapes, and psychedelic visuals into a mind-bending, glorious experience.

SLIFT is brothers Jean and Remí Fossat, and Canek Flores. Formed in 2016, SLIFT quickly made an impression on rockers worldwide with their 2017 debut EP, ‘Space Is the Key’, and the following year’s full-length ‘La Planeté Inexplore’é. In 2019, their KEXP session recorded at the Trans Musicales festival became a viral sensation, racking up more than 1.5 million YouTube views and setting the stage for their acclaimed 2020 space-rock opus, ‘UMMON’, and a subsequent limited-edition 7” for the Sub Pop Singles Club.

‘ILION’ launches SLIFT even deeper into the cosmos, merging the furious intensity of metal and the wigged-out guitar heroics of psych-rock with post-rock’s epic sense of scale.  ‘ILION’ is a towering work of rock music, a steamrolling record that starts at the highest peak and never lets up. If that sounds overwhelming, trust that this Toulouse trio have you in good hands. Their third full-length feels massive and oceanic, merging the furious intensity of metal and the wigged-out guitar heroics of psych rock with post-rock’s epic sense of scale. ‘ILION’ is the kind of music where you listen to it and think to yourself, “This came from only three people?” It sure did, and SLIFT’s utter ferocity is way more than a tempest in a teacup. It reaches outwards for miles and creates new zeniths within unforeseen horizons of rock.

‘ILION’ track list:
1. Ilion
2. Nimh
3. The Words That Have Never Been Heard
4. Confluence
5. Weaver’s Weft
6. Uruk
7. The Story That Has Never Been Told
