Both prone to the kind of soul-searching synonymous with the season, Ásgeir and Arny Margret have collaborated on new single ‘Part Of Me’. The track is out now via One Little Independent Records.
A winter warmer with rich, acoustic tones and stirring melodies, the track showcases the kind of intimacy and nostalgia that Iceland’s homegrown singer-songwriters have become known for. ‘Part Of Me’ is a fireside duet with a timeless quality and comforting ambience.
Arny tells us; “Even though Ásgeir and I work in the same studio and have the same team around us we’ve never worked together until now. I think we’re both quite introverted and shy people but for the last few months we’ve gotten to know each other a bit more. Ásgeir had a guitar riff and we tried making some melodies over it. It was a super quick process and I’m very happy with the outcome. I’ve always looked up to Ásgeir, so it was very special for me to get to work with him.”
Ásgeir adds; “I was in the studio playing around with some chords on the guitar when Arny walked in, and we spontaneously decided to write something together. When we kind of had the melody down, we decided on what the lyrics should be about and then both of us went home and wrote something down. The next day we went back to the studio and finished both the lyrics and the song in a few hours.”
Arny concludes; “I think we were just doing the right thing at the right time.”

This intricate and emotionally charged ensemble shines, the notes dazzle with the beautiful vocal harmonies colliding to create something so vital. The warmth emits from the lyrics as it builds up this immersive setting, a placement where the words sit still with resonating affection.

As one of Iceland’s most successful exports, Ásgeir has always pushed the boundaries of his thoughtful brand of folk-pop. His debut album ‘Dýrð í dauðaþögn’, currently celebrating its 10th anniversary, was the best-selling debut record ever in Iceland, in 2014 he released ‘In The Silence’, the English language version. He followed this with the introspective, emotive folktronica of ‘Afterglow’ in 2017 and 2020’s exceptional ‘Bury The Moon’.
New album ‘Time On My Hands’ saw Ásgeir in a state of self-reflection and experimentation, having spent much of the last few years in his home and in the studio deeply engrossed in writing, recording, translating and producing. It was praised by the likes of The Independent, MOJO, NME, The Line Of Best Fit, Clash Magazine, BBC 6 Music and Radio X.
Iceland sensation Arny Margret encompasses folk, indie, and an introspective style characterized by a heartfelt and personal approach. She uses rich, intimate instrumentation to delve further into themes of self-reflection and existentialism.
Arny Margret has been making waves not only in her hometown but across Europe and the US, touring extensively, supporting Leif Vollebekk, Passenger, Blake Mills, Ásgeir and more, as well as playing the likes of SXSW, The Great Escape, Newport Folk Festival, Reykjavik Calling, and Iceland Airwaves. Her luscious new EP, ‘dinner alone’, is out now.
She cites influences from the likes of Andy Shauf, Phoebe Bridgers, Bon Iver and Gregory Alan Isakov. Born and raised in a small town called Ísafjörður, she attended music school from the age of 6 learning to play the piano and gradually taught herself guitar. She records at studio Hljóðriti in Hafnarfjörður and continues to make her mark globally with her intimate and affecting live performances.
