Shares New Single “Small Sanctuary” Out Now on Ninja Tune / Mom+Pop
Second look at new music to follow in 2024
Tycho has shared a new single and accompanying visualiser, entitled “Small Sanctuary”, out now on Ninja Tune / Mom+Pop.
Speaking on the luminous new track, Tycho’s Scott Hansen comments: “Innocent and unburdened by the trappings of modern life, children are a pure expression of the human condition. To watch them grow and learn is to witness a sanctuary for the human spirit. I wrote this song for my daughter who brings me limitless joy and inspiration.”
Commenting on the accompanying artwork, he adds “The artwork represents the menagerie of experiences and ideas that form our selfhood. From early life to adulthood we collect these things in our memory and they come to define us”. The visualizer was brought to life by Scott’s animation partner, Michael McAfee.
Immediately blissful, the alternating notes, the rising tones, the sincere shifts and the immersive atmosphere. All of these attributes engulf the audience before the vocal harmonies simply bounce into the landscape and pierce the ambience with this striking abundance of emotion. A track that resonates, the addictive passages speak long after the track ends.
This is the second glimpse at Tycho’s next sonic chapter, following the energising track “Time To Run”, released back in July – Tycho’s first new work in two years. This latest work sees him work once again with Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear on mixing and additional production duties, and shows the two artists growing their working relationship and honing their artistic vision.
“Small Sanctuary” debuted last month as part of Tycho’s now infamous annual Burning Man sunrise set. You can listen to this year’s full set here.
