Breakout Canadian duo share new single & video “Haunt You Still”
UK tour with Movements this month

Ahead of a UK tour later this month, Canadian twin duo Softcult bring their whirlwind year to a resounding conclusion and tease things to come in 2024 with the release of “Haunt You Still”.
On this next collection of songs, siblings Mercedes (she/her) and Phoenix (they/them) Arn-Horn shine a more brilliant light than ever before on the many complexities of human existence.
Though they’re still yet to release their debut album, Softcult are already carving out a signature sound with their enthralling, celestial shoegaze bliss interlaced with impassioned lyrical calls, opening conversations about gender equality, violence, climate change, corporate greed and much more.
New single “Haunt You Still” finds Softcult unpacking the lingering impact we each inevitably have in our past relationships and friendships.
“Maybe it’s a defence mechanism, but we tend to demonise the people we once held close once they’re out of our lives, and it’s not always warranted. It’s a reactive way of protecting ourselves,” they explain. “This song is an acknowledgement that when things don’t work out between two people, it’s not always one sole person in the wrong. Looking back on our past, we have to reflect on the parts we’ve played and the damage we may have unintentionally left behind. When those people think of us, do they look back fondly or has the chapter of their lives where we appeared become a painful memory?”

This sweeping landscape simply engulfs the audience. This fixation on the growing textures surrounding you, the delicate yet expressive emotive harmonies float over the fierce structure. The melody of this composition stirs through the deep tones and the complex voyage, the melody moves through the guitar passages and the looping notes, and with the movement comes the emotion.

It’s daring, monumental and entirely sincere. This melancholic force reigns down on the exploration and hooks the central magnetism of the ensemble.

Softcult live dates (with Movements):
Nov 22: SOUTHAMPTON The Loft
Nov 23: LEEDS Project House
Nov 24: MANCHESTER Club Academy
Nov 26: GLASGOW Garage
Nov 27: BIRMINGHAM The Mill
Nov 28: BRISTOL Lost Horizon
Nov 30: LONDON Electric Ballroom

Born in the studio, Softcult are building their own universe. With Phoenix running point on production, engineering, and artwork,  Mercedes directing/editing their videos, and both writing astoundingly-intimate lyrics about self-empowerment amidst social, political, and environmental collapse, the duo is about as DIY as it gets. They create and produce their own zine called SCripture, and are active participants in their Softcult Discord server, a safe online community for their fans, as spotlighted by AltPress.

Earlier this year, Softcult released the breakout ‘See You in the Dark EP’, a worthy contender amidst their already-stacked discography that has garnered acclaim and buzz both in their home country of Canada and internationally. They’ve been championed by artists like Hayley Williams and Oli Sykes, have opened up for bands such as Incubus and MUSE in recent months, and have been highlighted as a band to watch by Alternative Press, Kerrang!, CBC, The Gay Times and more.
