W.H.LUNG
“High Pressure Days”
New track ahead of debut headline US Tour in September
It may indeed be High Pressure Days for W. H. Lung, as they prepare for their debut headline US tour & ready their third full-length LP. Ahead of their journey across the States they offer a taste of the sound that’s garnered them a reputation as one of the best live bands in the UK. Eagle-eared gig goers might have noticed the song sneak into the end of W. H. Lung’s live set of late, already bedding in as a firm favourite.
Like their live shows, the track finds the band at their most direct. High Pressure Days is a stomp through a busy city, hustling along like a rush hour train behind schedule, the joint vocals of Joseph Evans & Hannah Peace lost running through block after block of frantic drums & squealing theremin. Recorded in the band’s new Salford studio Futuro House, started with local pals The Orielles & the track’s co-producer Lewis Johnson-Kellett, they’ve crafted a bustling downtown of modulor synths & wayward guitars.
The video, shot in Manchester in a day, sees singer Evans trapped in the corporate rat race – Evans & director Craig Mclaughlin said on the concept: ”The video follows the cyclical white-collar nightmare of Mr. Everyman-office-worker, as he navigates through high pressure days. His life is as stressful as it is banal until an ethereal figure on his computer screen offers him a chance for psychedelic salvation.”
The new track and video, are completely explosive, and impressionable and exude this complexity that is long-lasting, infectious and melodic. W.H. Lung lace their orchestrations with this euphoric and essential journey. Built on the bold tones and surging synth sounds, the harmonic vocal notes and relatable lyrics. This cadence of intricate elements unite for this moving, electronic explosion.
Originally released in 1979 by San Francisco synth-punk The Units, High Pressure Days has always felt adjacent to W. H. Lung’s contemporary take on electronic pop, their cover is a satisfying homage that slips comfortably amongst the band’s previous output.
W. H. Lung will play an intimate warm up show for the US dates at Partisan, Islington mill on 14th September, alongside Dee Rae & Adjustments alongside still to be announced special guests raising funds for Partisan Collective https://skiddle.com/e/36589784
