Released alongside reworking of album track “Destroy Myself (Avoid Myself Orchestral Version)”

Gena Rose Bruce quickly follows up her critically acclaimed album Deep Is The Way with the announcement of the Lighting Up EP to be released on September 1st 2023. Alongside the news she shares an enchanting reworking of “Destroy Myself (Avoid Myself Orchestral Version)”

Such a powerful version, bringing emotion to the forefront of the release from the growing intensity and the cutting strings that channel further power into the soundscape. The single commences with this tension that adapts and evolves throughout the journey, the rhythmically pleasing textures add this addictive quality from the first bar and the audience hooks onto this movement as the exploration further expands with influential status.

Bruce enlists the Budapest Art Orchestra to breathe new life into the single, elevating it to new emotional heights with the haunting cacophony of strings. Bruce opened up on the reimagining of the track saying; “Bringing these songs to live again with the Budapest Art Orchestra was something pretty unique. It was all done via zoom, and we only had an hour to record with the orchestra, so a lot of preparation was done beforehand but we were so nervous about how much we could do in an hour, but it seemed to work and the end result was incredible, it’s amazing how the strings can bring such emotion to the songs.

After mesmerising audiences on her recent Australian and UK album tour which included The Great Escape, Gena now gears up for an exciting UK/EU festival run, including appearances at End Of The Road UK and Reeperbahn DE

A lot has happened to Gena Rose Bruce since the release of her critically acclaimed second album Deep Is The Way in January. The Melbourne musician’s stirring lyrical explorations of fragility, turmoil, and honesty earned her a place on the cover of Spectrum in The Sydney Morning Herald and was described by MOJO (4*) as a “lovely and affecting record”, while The Guardian AU (4*) called it “compelling and complex with moments of brilliance” and NME AU (4*) upheld it as “an emotive and explorative second album”.

Deep Is The Way saw Bruce team up with the iconic songwriter Bill Callahan, sending lyrics back and forth resulting in the stunning tracks “Foolishly In love”, and the title track, “Deep Is The Way”, which was #1 track of the week in The Guardian UK, who said “this lovely song steps forward with confident patience”. The album as a whole documents the path the Melbourne artist took back towards the light, after processing the passing of her partner’s mother, and the instability of the pandemic.
