Katy J Pearson Releases New Version of “Willow’s Song” ft Broadside Hacks

Taken From Forthcoming Katy J Pearson & Friends Present Songs From The Wicker Man

An EP of The Wicker Man Soundtrack Covers for Studiocanal’s The Wicker Man 50th Anniversary Collector’s Edition 4-Disc Boxset

Katy J Pearson has shared a re-recorded version of “Willow’s Song” featuring London folk collective Broadside Hacks. Originally featured on her acclaimed album, Sound Of The Morning, released on Heavenly Recordings in July 2022, this updated cover of Paul Giovanni’s song from the soundtrack to the 1973 cult film The Wicker Man produced by Balazs Altsach features on a forthcoming EP which includes new versions of some of the film’s most memorable music.

Talking about “Willow’s Song”, Katy said: “Strangely, I heard The Wicker Man soundtrack way before I watched the movie. I remember my dad playing me Willow’s Song and I found it hypnotic and it started being a song I listened to a lot. The version I did for the record was a kind of psychedelic/Krautrock version so having the opportunity to work with my friends Broadside Hacks on a traditional cover which they put together so beautifully has been really brilliant. I’m such a fan so it’s an honor to be involved in the 50th anniversary of The Wicker Man.”

Also, a Blogotheque video of Katy performing ‘Willow’s Song’ in Paris this May was premiered yesterday. The performance can be viewed HERE.

Katy’s distinct mesmeric melodies thrive within this intricate landscape, captivating the audience to their core. This emotive throttle powers through the sublime harmonies soaring above the strings, and gentle acoustic pics. It’s easy to embrace the power of classic tonalities and rich instrumentation.

Having been asked to re-imagine the soundtrack for Studiocanal’s box set re-issue of the cult Brit-horror film to mark its 50th anniversary, the 9-track EP from Katy J Pearson and friends (Broadside Hacks, Drug Store Romeos, Sarah Meth, Orbury Common, Evie Hilyer-Zietler, Bert Ussher,  H. Hawkline plus special guests as well as remixes by Richard Norris and Stone Club) celebrates the film’s iconic soundtrack and will be released on CD on September 25 as part of the 4-disc The Wicker Man 50th Anniversary Collector’s Edition and digitally later in the year on Heavenly.

Talking about the EP, Candy Vincent-Smith of Studiocanal said: “Introducing a younger audience to the classic films in our library is so important to us, and so we jumped at the chance to work with Katy J Pearson and Heavenly, to breathe new life into The Wicker Man’s iconic soundtrack. This very special E.P. aims to bring a whole new generation of film and music fans to worship at the feet of this brilliantly scary cult film, in celebration of its 50th Anniversary.”

Full details and track listing of the EP will be announced shortly.
