FEWS Release Third Album “Glass City”
Out Now via Welfare Sounds & Records
Sweden-based post-punk quartet FEWS have released their third album ‘Glass City’ via Welfare Sounds & Records alongside new single ‘Yoga Instructor’. The multi-national band will also be heading out for a run of UK headline dates at the end of this month.
Hailing from Sweden, America & England, FEWS have built a fearsome reputation for their intense, immersive live shows; touring across the UK and Europe with the likes of Pixies, Fat White Family, Bloc Party, DIIV and Crack Cloud. Lauded by the likes of The Guardian, Clash, Under The Radar & DIY, FEWS long ago affirmed their place at the crest of a blistering new wave of post-punk.
Starting with nothing but the ambition of creating something “punky and simple”, FEWS started to experiment with producer Joakim Lindberg. Leaving behind the comfort of production polish and resisting the urge to compromise for the sake of accessibility, the band’s third album ‘GLASS CITY’ is unashamedly honest, defiantly raw and represents FEWS at their bracing, brutal best.
Arriving with the album is new single ‘Yoga Instructor’, the album’s opener and an acerbic statement of intent. Singer Frederick’s harrowing account of endlessly pacing his 14 metre-square apartment whilst sleep evades him is backed by repetitive, pecking guitar hooks and constant, pounding drums. The pressure builds until the inevitable, inescapable release of tension; amid the delightful dirge of buzzsaw synth sound and gut-punching bass weight, Frederick’s characteristically wry refrain ‘not even yoga can fix this’ resounds as a tongue-in-cheek smirk in the face of today’s wholesale commodification of well-being.
The new single boasts this brooding prowess, the meandering complex tones entwining to build this immersive and impressive structure laced with depth and angular attributes. The vocal notes embrace this intimate approach and explore such expressive harmonies.
Hooked on the single, embrace the stunning record in all its glory below. Marking this captivating progression for the outfit and their ability to explore a range of emotions through their tonality and their adventurous atmospheres, altering throughout the collection. FEWS have developed and honed in on their eccentric energy, and that enthralls the listener and ultimately moves them.
FEWS might be older, their inspirations and intentions may have changed but thankfully, the band’s indelible urge to make a whole lot of noise has gone nowhere. Pushed to breaking point, ‘GLASS CITY’ is FEWS emerging from the other side; reinvigorated, free, and fantastically furious.
‘GLASS CITY’ is out now via Welfare Sounds & Records.
FEWS will be touring extensively throughout 2023, with additional shows already added due to demand.
