HISTORIAN LIMITED-EDITION FIVE YEAR ANNIVERSARY RED VINYL OUT MAY 26TH AND AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER NOW

‘Historian’, the cherished sophomore LP from Lucy Dacus released via Matador, celebrates its five year anniversary. In conjunction, Dacus unveils the first-ever “Night Shift” music video, directed by Jane Schoenbrun (We’re All Going to the World’s Fair) and featuring Dacus, and Jasmin Savoy Brown (Yellowjackets), among others. Initially released to a wealth of critical praise, the love surrounding ‘Historian’ has grown exponentially since 2018.

In five years I hope the songs feel like covers // Dedicated to new lovers,” Dacus sings in “Night Shift,” the Historian album opener and a longtime fan favorite about believing in and manifesting the future you desire. It’s “a cathartic, bridge-burning, no-f**s-given breakup song […] By the time you get to the end, which I’ve now done about a hundred times, you feel a lot of feelings, although you don’t know much about the person the song is excoriating, not even their gender” (New Yorker).

The song’s long overdue video was filmed amongst friends new and old over several days at the Poconos Palace in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. It is a stunning and heart-warming treat for fans who have watched Dacus grow from her Richmond days to bona-fide indie rock stardom.

The raw track which hits on so many levels and connects to all. An extremely personal release that is finally accompanied by a mesmeric video.

The “Night Shift” video premiered Tuesday night in New York at Nitehawk Prospect Park, followed by a Q+A with Dacus and Schoenbrun, moderated by E.R. Fightmaster and Liza Anne who both had featured roles in the video, and a screening of We’re All Going To The World’s Fair.

The ‘Historian’ five year anniversary red vinyl will be out May 26th via Matador. This limited edition version features Dacus’ first draft of the original artwork. Stream ‘Historian and pre-order anniversary edition HERE.

In 2021, Lucy Dacus released ‘Home Video’, her third studio album and one of the year’s most celebrated records. Solidifying her as “one of the best songwriters of her generation” (Rolling Stone), Dacus followed its release with a string of covers honoring the best songwriters of generations past: Carole King (“Home Again”) and Cher (“Believe”). Dacus also unveiled Home Video b-side “Kissing Lessons” ahead of her acclaimed tour in support of the record. This spring, Dacus will perform a slew of dates alongside Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker as boygenius.
