Rad Releases 22 – Seán Grant and The Wolfgang
Our annual end-of-year feature is finally here, we spend the final two weeks of the year discussing the music that made 2022 special. Our special Rad Releases feature is now 12 years old and we love sharing the site with musicians, labels, and promoters as we discuss their year in music. We take a personal look back on familiar names’ most loved releases of the past 12 months. It’s a time we enjoy and look forward to, through the contributions we get to find new music discoveries, and releases we may have missed throughout the year.
2022 was certainly the year of Seán Grant and The Wolfgang. We’ve loved watching this artist work towards the release of the phenomenal sophomore album release “333“. The 9-track album came out in July via VBAH Records and welcomes Seán‘s delve further into such obscure and expressive pieces. Blown away by the power of this record, Seán has also been touring the release throughout the year, we hand over to Seán to find out more about the music that made the year so special.
Afghan Whigs – How Do You Burn?
Pure perfection, they’ve done it beautiful alternatively scrumptious. QOTSA in places, The National in others. I only became aware of them a few years back as people always likened us to them.
Wunderhorse – Cub
My drummer recommended this album to me and it’s beautiful glitzy grubby country rockness caught me.
Aurora – The Gods We Can Touch
What a beautiful eccentric human full of light very Bjork. Just lovely “The gods we can touch from the light that rests within us to the darkness that exists around us.”
Wet Leg – Wet Leg
Just good ain’t it.
Yard Act – The Overload
Very clever different take on modern indie! Charming and uncomfortable in all the right places and what a break through year.
- The best show you have played this year
We were lucky enough to tour twice this year the leave the capital tour in March was pure magic with great people, after which I signed to Vandalsim Begins At Home Records after spending a solid week in each other’s pockets. Nothing beats playing your home town and selling it out though, the crowd were magic and came up with the “Sean Grant & The Woooolfgang” chat to 7 nation army.
- Your own highlight of the year
Definitely releasing my album “333” that’s 2 albums in as many years and I’ve just completed my next, so I’m on course to release an album a year till I die now….
- Has there been any record that’s got you through this year?
Afghan Whigs really made me fall in love with music again after having a break in a busy year! I have to have time away from it all and listen to a lot of soundtrack stuff rather than songs, but that was definitely the catalyst I needed.
- Best musical discovery this year?
Aurora, seems I’ve had my head in the sand with her but beautiful human beautiful music and message.
- Artist/Band to watch for 2023
Locally for me…. TMCF, Sourdough and Space Pistol.
- Plans for the New Year
More singles, more releases, more gigs, MORE LOVE.
As always thank you so much for your time with Circuit Sweet and for that record! Very excited for more.
