Rad Releases 22 – Adwaith
Our annual end-of-year feature is finally here, we spend the final two weeks of the year discussing the music that made 2022 special. Our special Rad Releases feature is now 12 years old and we love sharing the site with musicians, labels, and promoters as we discuss their year in music. We take a personal look back on familiar names’ most loved releases of the past 12 months. It’s a time we enjoy and look forward to, through the contributions we get to find new music discoveries, and releases we may have missed throughout the year.
What a year it’s been for the prolific trio Adwaith, releasing one of the most influential records of this year and later receiving The Welsh Music Prize 2022 for their sophomore album “Bato Mato” which is out via Libertino Records. The Welsh post-punk three-piece enthralled us throughout the entire year, first with the spring release of their standout single “ETO“, then with their magnificent summer album release. We are delighted to speak to Heledd to discover more about the most loved records of the year.
Kendrick Lamar – Mr.Morale & The Big Steppers
Incredibly inventive production and songwriting, everything feels very fresh and emotional on this album.
Charlotte adigéry and Bolis pupul – Topical Dancer
Personally think this album is one of the most important and imaginative releases in years. clever, fun and very personal – takes you on a very unique musical journey.
Charli XCX – Crash
Amazing dance-pop tracks on this album, Very energetic and the melodies keep you hooked. Also includes some absolutely dreamy collaborations with Rina sawayama, Caroline polachek and many more.
Cerys hafana – edyf
An amazing collection of songs found in the welsh national library’s archives. Cerys has a way of bringing the songs to a different dimension, keeping the personality and emotions seamlessly intact, with sublime harp playing I might add. Tragwyddoldeb is a favourite on the album!
Lilo – sleep country
Such a beautiful EP, every track is produced so perfectly. Helen and Christie’s vocals work so well together and they manage to capture something truly magical on this EP.
