BRIGHTEN THE CORNERS FESTIVAL ANNOUNCED
June 9th & 10th 2023
Brighten The Corners Festival has today revealed the first wave of acts for their 2023 event, taking place on Friday 9th & Saturday 10th June in five venues throughout Ipswich town centre.
Leading their inclusive and exciting lineup is headliners 86TVs, the new project from The Maccebees’ Felix and Hugo White, art-punk newcomers The Lounge Society, London-based musician Rozi Plain, slowcore rockers deathcrash, London based rapper Coops, alt-indie five-piece Moreish Idols and eccentric experimental trio Kyoto Kyoto, alongside a selection of the finest talent in emerging music.
The multi-venue event, formerly known as Sound City Ipswich, saw editions in 2019 and 2021 and has brought artists such as Yard Act, Working Men’s Club, The Murder Capital, Novelist and others to the town.
The team behind the festival also run live music venues The Smokehouse and The Baths and are set to open St Stephen’s Church as a venue and cafe bar in spring 2023. This continues the festival’s dedication to community and arts revitalisation in the town as part of their mission alongside the main event – as detailed by NME. These three venues will be used for the festival in addition to the Corn Exchange and a stage on the Corn Hill, all within Ipswich’s easily accessible town centre.
Detailing their initial lineup announcement, Head of Programming Marcus Neal explained: “It’s a real pleasure pulling together a festival line-up and it feels great to be able to start releasing the first names for 2023. We’re always proud of the quality of artists we work with and 2023 will be no different. This first release covers so many bases from spiritual jazz to UK hip-hop, indie-folk to post-punk, we feel there is already a great spread of genres and we look forward to building upon this with further announcements including more festival headliners in the new year.”
Performing at this year’s edition will be 86TVs, The Lounge Society, Rozi Plain, Naima Bock, muva of Earth, Coops, deathcrash, Joshua Idehen, Group Listening, Jords, Moreish Idols, Kyoto Kyoto, Lande Hekt and more.
