Show Dogs Return With New Single “Hollywood Stole My Life”

Out Now via Rose Parade Recording Co

Upcoming EP “Y Wladychfa (A Trilogy)” due 28th October 2022

Back in the summer, we introduced you to the sounds of Show Dogs, today we are delighted to share their new single and announce details of their upcoming EP which also drops later this month.

Show Dogs are an outfit composed of members of long-standing Cardiff stalwarts TJ RobertsRainbow Maniac and AHGEEBEE, Show Dogs are described as melding acerbic observations of contemporary Welsh life with deeply personal reflections, set to a chamber-pop soundtrack.

Now they return with their new single “Hollywood Stole My Life” which is described as journaling lead-singer TJ Roberts’ relationship with the international film industry in both his impressionable youth and now as a resident of Wales, who continue to provide tax-exemptions for film crews. It focuses on the dichotomy that Welsh artists often encounter, to seek fame they must abandon their sense of Welshness, only to return and find corporations have set up shop. The song is also an easter egg for TJ Roberts fans, with the lyrics and title citing the artist’s biggest release to date, ‘Passed out on a Hollywood Star’.

The new single is a vivid and wild journey that captures this immense energy and more aggressive attitude being captured with such ease throughout. It’s raw, resilient, extremely addictive, and relies on the punchy tonality which thrives and dominates the atmosphere. The growling feedback and fuzz initiate the release joined instantly with the expressive vocal harmonies offering repeated, lasting lyrics. The ambiance grows with the addition of the instrumentation and complex hooks that layer the release, these attributes are found within the scratchy guitar rhythms, vigorous drum beats and shuffles, plentiful textures of the jaunty notes combined with the eccentric noodling riffs that briefly wade in.

The lyrics capture this character and charm throughout the insightful world created from the words. The harmonies simply soar across the ferocious instrumentation that controls the powerful atmosphere. With the new single, Show Dogs showcase their ability to create such a dazzling creation of anthemic status.

Inspiration for the new release has been described as born from Welsh music heroes Super Furry Animals and Deerhunter. Engineered and produced by Thomas V Westgard and Secondson (Danielle Lewis, Super Furry Animals) at After Life Studios, the band spent the summer of 2022 recording three EPs the first of which, ‘Y Wladychfa (A Trilogy)’ will be released on the 28th of October.
