Brighton post-punk specialists Public Body share snarling new effort ‘Break From Life‘, set for release October 7th via FatCat Records (Honeyblood, The Twilight Sad, We Were Promised Jetpacks).
Partnering with the cult indie label for their much-anticipated debut album, slated to arrive next year, ‘Break From Life’ marks the first reveal from the forthcoming record, a relentless barrage of tenacious riffage that encapsulates the group’s unbridled potential in full flow.
With a long line of indie press champions (DIY, So Young, The Line Of Best Fit, Clash, Gigwise, The Forty Five) already showering the band with significant praise in recent times, as well as multiple spins on the BBC 6 Music airwaves (Steve Lamacq), Public Body have certainly been gaining approval across the board, whilst their contagious live show has earned them several impressive supports alongside the likes of The Cool Greenhouse, Uranium Club and Vintage Crop in recent times.
Detailing their upcoming release, frontman Seb Gilmore explained: “‘Break From Life’ is about taking a lackadaisical approach to life, nothing is really happening and you enter into an idle state, Realising that you’ve run down the clock by taking a back seat the whole time and not applying yourself. This realisation hits you whilst doom scrolling on your phone, you haven’t moved position in a while and you can feel your whole body aching to be moved, but still there isn’t even motivation to do that. This song was written/recorded/mixed at home using an old 70’s Woolworths amp and 80’s Yamaha drum machine”.
Public Body’s new single captures this character emodied within the lyrics which many are connecting with right now. That constant groundhog day sweeping amongst the repeated lyrics, lifted with the dazzling instrumentation and the rhymthic hooks that deliver this enthralling essence. Quick-paced stop-starts and this bright spectrum of textures, Public Body enthrall.
With a full autumn tour plot lined up, including a support run alongside revered alt-rockers TRAAMS and appearances at Left Of The Dial, Public Body are certainly laying the groundwork ahead of what promises to be a busy 2023.
