MODERN RITUALS RETURN WITH NEW ALBUM, CRACKING OF THE BULK
OUT 30TH SEPTEMBER 2022 VIA GOD UNKNOWN RECORDS
Modern Rituals have announced their return with the release of upcoming new album, Cracking Of The Bulk, alongside the record’s lead single ‘Scummeth’.
For a band who’ve tended to flesh out songs in the practice room and track live, the writing and recording of Modern Rituals’ third album was a disparate and protracted process. In cramped apartments and a secluded annex, sharing files over the internet and working on parts in solitude, the band introduced subtler tones from their last record, This Is The History. Yet still, this new direction is matched by an explosive frustration that gives it a unique balance of darker and lighter shades. Lead single ’Scummeth’ highlights this — starting as an infectious and mellow, grungy alt-rock track, the track starts to slowly crack at the seams, with guitar stabs and booming drums eventually giving way to the ferocious, darker core at the heart of the record.
“Scummeth is our (anti)-Christ-like figure, who represents the freedom we can find in all the places no one thinks to look; an embodiment for the discovery of beauty where no one thought to look before” explain the band. “Whether that is on the outskirts of town during a long, wet summer evening, with only the pigeons for company, or a lonesome stomp past abandoned factories and through soaking woods. It’s about discovering your personal freedom and relishing it, using it to find the forms of beauty that only have meaning for you.”
All at once, Modern Rituals delivers this brooding piece which combines abrasive attributes, lashes of fierce tonality, dark themes with this ethereal elevation. Scummeth draws you into the rhythmic passages and the brutal explosions whilst the melodic vocal notes ooze character and offer this plentiful range of affection. This addictive current creates a stirring appeal and this track moves you to your core
