Alela Diane Releases New Single “When We Believed”

Portland-based songwriter Alela Diane releases her new single ‘When We Believed’. Produced by Tucker Martine, the single is the third track to be released this summer, following ‘Howling Wind’ and ‘Paloma’.

The new music comes four years after the release of Diane’s critically acclaimed fifth studio album ‘Cusp’, described by the Guardian as ‘outstanding’, and the reissue of Diane’s mythical second album, ‘The Pirate’s Gospel’, which has gone on to sell over 100,000 copies.

Speaking about the new single, Diane says: “‘When We Believed’ is a song of reflection, of letting go, and reckoning with former selves, and expected outcomes.  It is a look back at a time in life when I moved and traveled freely, from the perspective of stillness. In this stillness, I can find the joy of a small child, picking a rosebud and leaving the stem behind.”

Another stunning and thoughtful release, with the intricate notes forming the body of this atmospherical creation, Alela’s sublime vocal range reaches out and consumes the audience. With the intimate lyrics and the expressive vocal harmonies, the audience embraces the range of emotions that exudes throughout the course of this ensemble.

Alela Diane captures this real familiarity, a form of nostalgia resonating from the words, the story of the song through to the tonality of the arrangement. Addicted to the journey of “When We Believed”, the music lifts the listener, placing all at the center of this composition to truly feel the affection that went into creating this harrowing track. As the single progresses, the intensity flourishes and keeps the listener hypnotized by the intricacies and sublime nature that emits from this vision.

Alela Diane is a Portland, Oregon based singer-songwriter who grew up in the winding rivers and golden hillsides of Nevada City, California. As a child, she listened to her parents harmonise bluegrass songs in the kitchen and began writing her own sings when she moved to San Francisco at the age of nineteen. Diane has been releasing albums since her move to the NW in the mid 2000s and has toured extensively throughout Europe and North America. Keep your ear to the ground for Diane’s next album.
