Returning with his first new release since 2019’s ‘Transactional Relationship’, today Gold Panda has shared new single “I’ve Felt Better (Than I Do Now)”.
Despite the dour track title, “I’ve Felt Better (Than I Do Now)” is a composition packed with soulful breaks and joyous warmth. This first taste of a forthcoming new album shimmies and skips along at a breathless pace, merging kaleidoscopic synths, chopped vocals and Balearic melody. The track is a sparkling reminder of all the qualities that has made Gold Panda one of the key artistic voices from the last decade of electronic music – the sort of effortless wonder that immediately takes you back into his inventive world of melodic electronica, just in time for summer.
“I made this when my daughter was two years old and I felt knackered and I’d turned 41” he comments. “The samples just came together and sounded like “I’ve felt better…” and at the same time I was looking at my anti-depressants feeling tired and just thought ‘ha, that’s right!’”
“I mess with chopping up samples until I get an interesting loop so I never set out to write a track; I’m led by the samples and then go from there. Funnily enough, My life now is actually way better than it was 10 years ago and I’m a bit healthier and I probably actually do feel better in general (apart from when I had that brain haemorrhage last year).”
This light, elated atmosphere engulfs the audience on this playful and truly immersive journey. Built on this array of infectious textures, mesmeric samples, and alluring loops, Gold Panda returns to peak form with this expressive ensemble. A real joyous vibe cascades from the beats, the tones, and the crucial quality of this new track.
Written and recorded over the last twelve months at his new studio at home in East London, “I’ve Felt Better (Then I Do Now)” sounds like exactly what it is: a fresh and energised Gold Panda, and an exciting hint of what else is to come in 2022.
