Abby Gogo Set To Release Self-Titled Reissue Due May 27th via Double Phantom

Abby Gogo was an Atlanta dreamy rock/shoegaze band that was active between 2005 and 2015 formed by twin brothers Bon and Jon Allinson. The band had many members throughout the years including Chandler Rentz (Snowden) during 2009-2010 and longtime drummer Puma Navarro. The band released its first 7-inch split with fellow Atlanta rockers Carnivores via Atlanta-based label Double Phantom Records in 2008, which was followed by a self-titled full length in 2010. Abby gogo sonically explored the shoegaze sound drawing influence from bands such as The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Telescopes, and Spacemen 3.

Throughout the years, Abby Gogo recorded and played shows in Atlanta, touring occasionally on the east coast and throughout the midwest. They paid a visit to SXSW in 2011 where they  teamed up with Atlanta label Pretty Ambitious to release the You Destroy Me 7-inch, featuring a cover of The Telescopes song “7# Disaster.” From those recording sessions, the band’s second full-length, A Perfect Whatever, was born. While the band split in 2014, its second album was released via Psych Army in 2018. We are told, and rightfully so, Jon and Bon both still live in Atlanta and continue to create art and music in the community. Essential musicians.

At the end of this month, the band will release the reissue of their self titled album via Double Phantom, you can pre-order your copy now.

The forthcoming 8 track re-issue captures this immense kaleidoscopic energy that the band put into their work. An electrifying record that is still as refreshing, current, and obliterating today as it was when first created. The self-titled record is unforgettable as it conveys’ some of the most truly exhilarating music.

The album kicks off with the sonically sumptuous “Louder Than Dreams”, an instant upheaval into this raucous atmosphere, crushing rhythms, and unpredictable drum beats collide with this mighty wall of sound. Fuzzy passages command your full attention as the wealth of noise, psych melodies and complex textures showcase this vast landscape, the vocal notes and harmonies cut through that chunky ambiance and ooze such infectious qualities. Consumed by the mammoth world Abby Gogo has created, the expressive notions flow with ease for the remaining 7 tracks.

Next up is the slower composition “The Lost Song”, a groove-laden composition that still emits the charming energy this outfit is recognized for, focusing their intensity on the deep chugs and hypnotizing rhythms that shape this release. Discordant melodies infuse with the psychedelic entities that cascade throughout the tracks’ arrangement, harnessing this compelling spirit that bounces from the tonality and dazzles from the vocals.

Tracks such as “Torpedo” and “Guitar#0” immerse the audience into this ever-growing, dynamic landscape, traveling through this damning course where the magnitude of angular riffs and colossal feedback sculpt the way for the raw rhythms to emerge. The range captured on this record is something else. “Glass” focuses on the intertwining guitar notes and the volatility of the challenging instrumentation, bringing focus to one tone initially, adding a contrast of silence before the shoegaze attributes and devouring fuzz fire back. Finally “Sweet Sweet” ends the record on the obliterating high it deserves. Phenomena, this cathartic end track highlights the most impressive cinematic traits. The intensity burns, and crafts the vital voyage before that dense soundscape showcases every layer, each attribute, and the endless hooks. Longing loops and explosive effects wail into the expressive crescendo.

As the record flows, Abby Gogo navigates through this powerful world boasting aggression and explosive clashes. Meandering through the lo-fi melodies to the bountiful bursts of chaos. The scale of these expressive ensembles allows the outfit to continue to influence music communities, this record is defiant, destructive, and assured to blow doors and minds. If you’re revisiting this vital album, we trust the emotions will enthrall, if this is your first listen, this album will shape you. A truly crucial collection that deserves to dominate your own vision.
