Touching Box Announce Debut LP
& Release New Single “What Nothing” – Out via Reckless Yes
Berlin-based electropop band Touching Box have announced the release of their debut album ‘What Nothing’ through Reckless Yes, with the release of their first single – also ‘What Nothing’ – which was released digitally 6th April and is available to stream now.
Emerging from the liminal space of lockdowns the band say of the track, “‘What Nothing’ is the moment one person thinks the other has just said something and then silence takes over again. Quarantine. Time stretches and sticks, like chewing gum. We imagine the life we had before things got strange. We imagine hobbies.”
Along with the single the band is also releasing the video for ‘What Nothing’. About the filming they said, “‘What Nothing’ was shot by Alex Fuchs middle of the night during the second Corona lockdown in Berlin. We had borrowed a giant smoke-machine and all the windows were open as smoke pooled out of the apartment. We were worried the fire department would show up.
“We had set up Robert’s nephew’s Carrera slot car racing tracks. We wanted to show the boredom of a couple stuck at home and the playful and obsessive nature of a good hobby.”
Touching Box have defined their addictive appeal, captured with ease throughout this new single “What Nothing”. The minimalist yet crucial tones consume the audience, whilst the rhythmic pulses push the exploration onto its vital course, its the attentive detail from the compelling vocal notes which assist in creating such an alluring atmosphere with a striking temperament.
The experimental ensemble is a truly refreshing release, with the spacious bass lines, piercing percussive beats, and sonically sweeping synth notes, this is electro-pop at its best. The call and response vocal touches add this elevated charm and allow a certain focus on the vocal notes which can be found at the forefront of the composition, whilst the decadent textures emphasize those tonalities.
Touching Box weaves this bountiful, immersive vibrance amongst their creations, its fun, moving, and simply infectious. This desirable atmosphere soon becomes its own destination, a place you need to stay. Once the journey ends, you’ll be longing for more.
Individually both Josepha (singer of Susie Asado) and Robert (drummer of It’s A Musical, Albertine Sarges, Kat Frankie, and Masha Qrella) have a deep history as music makers and creatives but the time has come to introduce them together as Touching Box.
The single and video release comes with the announcement of the band’s debut album ‘What Nothing’ due on vinyl, CD and digital through Reckless Yes on 17 June 2022.
