ME LOST ME
Announces The Circle Dance Remix EP,
due 14th April
Shares new version of ‘Binoculars’ remixed by Jennifer Walton
Electronic-folk innovator Me Lost Me, aka Jayne Dent, has announced a new collaborative remix version of October 2021’s ‘The Circle Dance’ EP, featuring varied and bold reworkings by contemporary musicians Mariam Rezaei, Jennifer Walton, AJA and Jen Mac.
The EP is due on 14th April and is now available for digital/cassette preorder on Bandcamp, with Jennifer Walton’s pulsating remix of ‘Binoculars’ available to stream now.
With ‘The Circle Dance’ EP being tipped as her “most textural and sonically adventurous music to date” (NARC Magazine) this adventure has been furthered by a group of new collaborators six months later, completely transforming the release’s original songs.
Speaking of the process, Jayne says she, “invited these artists because I love their work and I was keen to get people involved who would have a playful approach and create exciting and unexpected results. I asked them to choose which songs to work with, to respond freely and without restrictions of style, energy or sound.”
What results is a collection of distinctive tracks that take the listener on a journey, showcasing atmospheric and innovative electronic music production that defies genre and expectations.
Having first shared a live bill in 2018, Me Lost Me and Jennifer Walton have a long standing appreciation and understanding of each other’s work, with Walton saying that she wanted to, “honour Jayne’s vision and aesthetics” for her version of ‘Binoculars’, while weaving in her “own touch”. She does this by bringing club energy and flair for arrangement to the remix, showcasing the fresh take on electronic music that sees her as an established member of the UK’s new underground post-electronica movement.
The track begins with spacious swells bubbling under vocals and clarinet, steadily building into a euphoric and hypnotic zone inspired by the “trance-like elements” of the vocals. The electronics ring with clarity and the sounds are designed with surgical precision, exploring warped tropes of 90’s trance, leading Walton to describe her remix as a “track for crying on the dance (bedroom) floor”.
This ominous ambiance begins to soar, initiating this expressive landscape filled with intricate notes and compelling textures. The vocal notes glide above the structure, bringing this dynamic melody to the atmosphere. Whilst the affection oozes from the vocal harmonies on offer, the exploration shifts and cuts adding this unpredictable voyage to the creation. The beats intensify, stutter, pierce the ambiance, the textures evolve to this abrasive nature, the tones explode offering this industrial, fierce complexity. Suddenly the audience is caught in the powerful exploration filled with this mighty energy.
