White Lies Share New Single ‘Blue Drift’ Taken From Forthcoming Sixth Album due February 18th 2022 & Live Dates

With their forthcoming sixth album, As I Try Not To Fall Apart due this Friday (18th February) on PIAS, White Lies have shared new album cut, “Blue Drift” and announce a limited edition gold cassette album format, limited to 300 copies and only available via the band’s store (order here).

The band’s Charles Cave says of “Blue Drift“: “Dare I say it this is another tip-toe into a more progressive-rock realm. The song feels very much a nighttime drive to me, winding empty roads, foreign air creeping in through the window. It’s a song about being humbled by the mind’s ability to lift us up and bring us down. It’s grand, full of longing and bombast, but there is an uneasiness to it too. It never quite resolves. This is going to be HUGE when we play it live!”

White Lies bring in their known synth sounds to soar and immediately sculpt the atmosphere. Whilst this nostalgic synth sound finds a connection to the audience, the Prince-like guitar rhythm, and superb upstrokes bring this elevated touch to the whole composition. Brighter tonality surges whilst the complex bass adds this cutting low-end and the vocal notes simply dazzle. The arrangement leads to this colossal build-up just over halfway, uniting this mighty force to continue to add layer upon layer into the ambiance, unafraid to show the true power the musicians possess.

With a nod to Prince and a nod to Tears For Fears, ultimately White Lies have produced something futuristic whilst keeping this nostalgic influence at the heart of the vision.

As I Try Not To Fall Apart was recorded at Sleeper Sounds and Assault & Battery studios in West London, and sees long-term collaborator Ed Buller, who has worked on many of their albums including their debut To Lose My Life…, return to produce several tracks along with Claudius Mittendorfer (Weezer, Panic! At The Disco) also producing and mixing the entire record.

Arguably one of the biggest guitar bands in the UK, White Lies last album, Fivegarnered much acclaim in 2019 with a SOLD OUT UK tour including multiple Brixton Academy shows.

Having also released Ritual in 2011, BIG TV in 2013 and Friends in 2016, the past decade has also seen the band establish themselves globally with sold out tours in Europe and beyond.
