Ahead of a run of UK dates starting at the end of this month, today Efterklang have shared a new fan-made video for “Alien Arms”, taken from their latest album ‘Windflowers’ – out now on City Slang.

Efterklang UK tour dates:
Feb 28 Leeds – Howard Assembly Room *SOLD OUT*
Mar 01 London – EartH
Mar 02 Manchester – Gorilla
Mar 03 Bristol – St. George

“Alien Arms” was first released through Efterklang’s Developed platform in September 2021. For five days, fans and friends were invited to collaborate by using their eyes and cameras to respond to the song while listening to it. Hundreds of people, from all over the world, contributed with thousands of videos and photos which now has formed the music video for “Alien Arms”

This is the second video to come out of Efterklang’s Developed platform. The first one was “Hold Me Close When You Can” and for that project Efterklang noticed someone posted photos from their hospital bed. The band reached out and found out that the photos were taken by Bhavesh Bangdiwala from Mumbai in India who was in hospital due to Covid-19.

When the videos and photos started rolling in for the second Developed event for “Alien Arms” Efterklang noticed that Bhavesh was back. This time healthy and active submitting one breathtaking video after the other from his home city of Mumbai. Seeing all the footage from Bhavesh the band reached out again asking if perhaps Bhavesh would be interested in directing the video. He accepted and began the huge task of going through all the submitted material. He began carving out a storyline and journey through the music and all the photos and videos that people had recorded while listening to the song.

“I could see the love that was poured in from different corners of the globe by fans through their videos and photographs” Bhavesh comments. “Stitching them together to create a visual story was frightfully challenging and yet exciting. We’ve all endured a rough two years together, but the fans who participated in this video have shown that the world is still bright and blue filled with love and hope. I still can’t believe that I got to create this. Thank you for the opportunity Mads, Casper and Rasmus. This was my fan moment. To the participants, this video goes out to you.”

The video was edited beautifully by Niels Buhl Hendriksen in Denmark and today Efterklang is sharing it with everyone who participated and the world.

A truly beautiful release from one of the most innovative records. Efterklang capture such an array of beauty within their ensembles. With their moving new release, personification and intimacy run hand in hand with the use of the new film bringing the audience into the narrative.

Efterklang Developed is an app the band built with London creative agency MARRIAGE, with the purpose of bringing listeners closer together in mind. “The video is not about presenting our music in the most impressive and flashy way, it is about collaborating,” Efterklang explains, continuing “It’s something we realise has become a centre of how we operate as a band. We want to create together with the listeners and concert attendees, and we keep searching for new ways of doing this.”

Efterklang Developed allows listeners to hear a new song for the first time before its official release, and to respond to it by taking photos and videos while the track plays. “We loved the simplicity and the symmetry of it, and we were excited to see how people interpret the music through their own reality. It was amazing to see what everybody gave to each other,” say Efterklang about the videos.

For over twenty years, Efterklang have been pushing the barriers of experimental, electronic, emotional chamber-pop. On their sixth studio album ‘Windflowers’, their first for City Slang, the Danish trio of Mads Brauer, Rasmus Stolberg and Casper Clausen continue a creative journey that’s brought them closer together, even as their lives grow apart. Channelling the motifs of hope and change its namesake flora represents, the album sees their many years of collaboration and experimentation distilled into some of their finest and most direct melodic moments to date.
