Rona Mac Releases New Single “Smoke” – Out Now

Following a fantastic year for Rona Mac, Rona’s wasting no time to dominate 2022 with more new music. Today, Rona Mac shares her stunning single “Smoke”, which is out across streaming platforms now with a video set to follow.

Rona Mac is described as a self-invented, genre-fusing, DIY singer-songwriter from rural West Wales. She crafts guitar-driven tracks which provide a hooky bed for her distinct vocals and sophisticated lyricism, resulting in wholesome, lo-fi indie-pop with a generous nod to folk and blues sounds. You will be blown away by the lyrical wisdom and sincerity of this artist. Her work producing music that connects to the audience is simply sublime, you will be able to embrace the honest words of this captivating artist.

Rona Mac‘s new single ‘Smoke’ is described as being a simple, cyclical and melodic song, lyrically driven over a swirling vocal backdrop. Smoke demonstrates Rona’s stripped-back style, bringing the song to its full potential whilst keeping it spacious and painfully raw. The track is embedded in her rural surroundings, with vocals recorded in a Cathedral bell tower amongst the chatter of crows. It was written during the first lockdown.

I’d manically cleared out and cleaned my caravan, and then sat down thinking ‘what the hell do I do now?’. The song ruminates over the many things that make me want to smoke – bad days, wistful moments, nights with my beautiful friends, angst and change.

The single commences with the organic recording processes featuring the calming influence of the surroundings, birds flourish past the audience as the delicate guitar strings emerge and start to buoyantly sculpt the immersive passages. Rona’s volatile vocal harmonies ooze such clarity, charm, and affection. The intimate lyrics provide such an expressive narrative to the ensemble. The added layer of soothing yet sincere melodies lays this chanting influence and emphasizes the tender tonalities on offer. The vocal notes reach these mighty highs and those notes resonate with the importance of the words. The guitar rhythms repeat and add this hypnotic touch to the arrangement.

Ending the raw arrangement with the final sample to innovatively capture the song title within the sound, this addition to incorporating smoke fades out this very honest creation. Once again, by allowing such vulnerability to become captured with ease throughout this creation, Rona Mac actually allows this fierce stance to captivate the audience.

Rona Mac has recently finished her latest music tour in October, playing at Focus Wales Showcase, Sŵn Fest, Half moon Putney, Clwb Ifor Bach and more. Other recent highlights include New York’s CMJ music marathon, plays on BBCRadio6 and Radio Wales, and the success of debut album ‘Sheelah’.

Smoke is the 2nd single to be released from upcoming EP ‘Shades of Ham’ due out on 4th March 2022.
