Leeds art-rock band Mush shares their new track, “Clarion Call” – taken from the limited edition green 7” single that was released as part of Record Store Day 2021 alongside the single “Peak Bleak”. “Clarion Call” sees the band further exploring the outer reaches of art-rock and includes a contribution from late guitarist Steven Tyson, as lead-singer Daniel Hyndman explains:

It’s one that nearly snuck onto Lines Redacted and the last tune Ty had a hand in writing some of the guitars. Can’t remember what it’s about to be honest just like the phrase, nice little tune though.”

Clarion Call brings that robust Mush energy into the forefront of every attribute. Rhythmic off-kilter passages battle with the jangly tone and the boisterous lyrics.  The vocal notes capture Dan Hyndman’s effervescent charisma that fights against the compelling and fierce soundscape the musicians have created. With some characteristics to early Mark Mothersbaugh, Dan standouts as the most promising wordsmith of our generation mesmerizing the audience with harmony, charm, and the ability to captivate from that first note.

The instrumentation has this all-consuming power, the audience allured into this expressive landscape filled with a mighty plethora of textures, some aggressive and sharp, some intricate. The pounding beat and buoyant drum shuffle aggravate that intensity the musicians have created. Dynamic and daring.

Mush’s new album Lines Redacted, which includes the BBC 6 Music-playlisted single “Blunt Instruments”, received a wave of critical acclaim upon its release in February. Glowing reviews from UNCUT “One of the finest British guitar records of recent years”, Pitchfork “Rallying against aggravating, absurd political realities with passion and humor”, Dork “Lines Redacted feels as though it belongs precisely in the here and now” and more.
