THE GOON SAX RELEASE LIVE PERFORMANCE VIDEO OF ‘DESIRE’

 ANNOUNCE RESCHEDULED UK TOUR DATES:
Mon Jan 24 – Mono, Glasgow
Tues Jan 25 – YES, Manchester
Weds Jan 26 – Hare & Hounds, Birmingham
Fri Jan 28 – Moth Club, London

The Goon Sax have released a new live video performing ‘Desire’, the latest single from their new album Mirror II, out now on Matador. Filmed in the band’s native Brisbane, the track sees Riley Jones’ ethereal vocals hang over a wash of pulsing guitar drone to entrancing effect-

Hypnotic, enchanting, and magical. With the new live video, The Goon Sax showcases their alluring appeal by creating this intoxicating atmosphere and hooking the audience. Complex and consuming with the ethereal vocal notes.

In addition, The Goon Sax have announced the rescheduling of their UK tour dates to early 2022. The band’s Louis Forster shared the following statement:

“Two days before Jim and I were going to leave for the UK, a close member of my family was diagnosed with a very serious illness. As we found out more information I realised I needed to stay in Brisbane to support my family and to be supported by them at the moment. Sorry to sound so impersonal – still finding this pretty hard to talk about… I feel incredibly grateful that I am able to be here and that I got the news before I left seeing how difficult it would have been to come back here from the UK with the Australian border being closed at the moment. Our Mirror II tour dates in the UK have been rescheduled for January next year (see below) and we’ll be announcing some more shows around these soon too! So thankful to everyone working on this tour for their support and understanding, above all to Riley and Jim.”

Mirror II also features singles ‘In The Stone’, about which Shaad D’Souza wrote in Paper wrote “The walloping, rhythmic thrum of this song is unparalleled in The Goon Sax’s catalogue”, and ‘Psychic’, which Nathan Jolly in The Guardian called “a marvellous, moody tune, and augurs well for album number three.”

Since forming in high school, Brisbane band The Goon Sax— the trio of Riley Jones, Louis Forster, and James Harrison, best friends who take turns writing, singing, and playing each instrument— have been celebrated for their kinetic homemade pop.

Mirror II is a new beginning: a multi-dimensional eclectic journey of musical craftsmanship that moves from disco to folk to no wave skronk with staggering cohesion. Gone are the first-person insecurities of their school days — they’ve been made expansive, more universal, and more weird.

The album is intense, the sum of everything that has always made The Goon Sax great: robust sprechgesang, raw lyrical candor, ascending guitar pop structures that would make the most storied jangle bands blush, elevated into their newfound narrative verisimilitude and expanded sonic experimentations.
