Public Service Broadcasting share their new single and video, “Blue Heaven” [ft. Andreya Casablanca] – an anthem of proud self-determination inspired by Marlene Dietrich
Public Service Broadcasting today share the lead single and video, “Blue Heaven”, from their upcoming highly anticipated fourth album, Bright Magic, set for release on 24th September 2021 via Play It Again Sam. Featuring vocals from Andreya Casablanca of Berlin garageistes Gurr, “Blue Heaven”, is an anthem of proud self-determination inspired by Marlene Dietrich, who according to the band’s J. Willgoose, Esq. was “a self-made myth to come out of Berlin”. He explains, “the lyrics highlight her power of self-manipulation, her ambition, her bravery and her lack of compromise on vital matters of character – ‘I am all my own invention / I’m in my blue heaven’ and so on. It’s named after the jazz number “My Blue Heaven” which she sang regularly and which she said first made her dream of America.”
The video was directed by Alex Southam (Alt J “Tesselate”, Bring Me The Horizon “Mantra) and features a remarkable performance from the German dancer, choreographer and multidisciplinary artist, Celine Fortenbacher, which perfectly encapsulates the energy of the song.
Utterly mesmerizing, Public Service Broadcasting are producing these grand immersive creations with the ultimate pull. The new release opens with this distinct ambiance and whilst the mood begins to shape and form the focus lands initially on the harmonic and ethereal vocal notes from Casablanca, the intimate vocal notes and lyrics soon soar with the growing soundwaves and mighty synth notes. As the exploration builds this vast landscape, the intensity heightens and showcases this clashing fusion of power, the bolting impression delivers fierce drum rhythms and ample riffs, this crucial energy emits into the essential atmosphere. Once again Public Service Broadcasting delivers another explosive ensemble. The audience fixated on the powerful creation with this unpredictable forceful delivery.
Public Service Broadcasting have directed their tone and the vital vocal collaboration with Andreya, manipulating this soulful yet experimental creation whilst still being accessible and contemporary. Another release to showcase this fierce and robust energy collides into every angular direction this release explores, consistently raising the intensity within the far-reaching exploration.
Ultimately, Public Service Broadcasting have released a single emitting a unique vibrance, hypnotizing tones and a truly expressive orchestration that offers a vast landscape with a story-telling attribute resonating within the structure and the tonality of this ensemble.
heir most ambitious undertaking yet, Bright Magic brings the listener to Europe’s heart and de facto capital, the cultural and political metropolis that is the ‘Hauptstadt’ of the Federal Republic of Germany – Berlin. “Blue Heaven” follows the release of “People, Let’s Dance”, featuring vocals from the Berlin-based musician, EERA. The single, which was A-Listed at BBC Music, incorporates a guitar riff from Depeche Mode’s “People Are People” and takes its title from a chapter of Rory MacLean’s “Berlin: Imagine A City”.Both singles features in part two of the album, which finds the scene shifting to a three-day weekend club environment and an aspect of Berlin as a long-established free zone for pleasure, art and expression.
Public Service Broadcasting will tour the UK this October and November with a show at London’s O2 Brixton Academy on 10th November 2021. Full dates are listed below and tickets are available HERE.
