Soccer Mommy Releases New Single “rom com 2004”
Soccer Mommy—a.k.a. Nashville native Sophie Allison—released her critically-acclaimed second album color theory last year, earning countless accolades and year-end list nods. Today she announces a new one-off single entitled “rom com 2004,” produced by 5x Grammy-nominated producer and songwriter BJ Burton (Charli XCX, Bon Iver, Chance The Rapper, Empress Of, Miley Cyrus). Allison says of the track: “I wrote this song a while back and made a poppy demo for it. Then I told BJ to destroy it.”
The glitchy tones and the angular attributes build the momentous soundscape but Soccer Mommy’s renowned vocal melodies emit from the experimentation ensemble and instantly we can identify the compelling artist. The vocal notes soar amongst this complex arrangement adding this emotional overturn to the experimental soundscape, the tender tones bring this layer of affection to this gritty atmosphere whilst still consistently attaching this 90s pop melancholy to the vision.
This new single also comes on the heels of Soccer Mommy contributing “Kissing In The Rain” to DC Comics and Loma Vista Recordings’ recent collaborative soundtrack for Dark Nights: Death Metal. The soundtrack was executive produced by acclaimed composer Tyler Bates (Guardians of the Galaxy, Watchmen, John Wick). On this soundtrack, Soccer Mommy is joined by an array of artists across various genres—including Mastodon, Denzel Curry, Manchester Orchestra, Chelsea Wolfe, IDLES, and more.
Following the release of color theory, Allison earned mass acclaim, with performances opening for Bernie Sanders, numerous upcoming headline dates sold-out months in advance, confirmed festival slots at the likes of Glastonbury, and her late-night debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Additionally, with touring at a halt for the entire music industry, Soccer Mommy found remarkably inventive ways to stay busy during quarantine. She released a deluxe binder version of color theory which you can getHERE along with a demo EP of selected album tracks which you can listen to HERE. Last summer, raising money for National Bail Out & Oxfam’s COVID-19 Relief Fund, Allison released the Soccer Mommy & Friends Singles Series featuring Jay Som, Beabadoobee, SASAMI and MGMT’s Andrew VanWyngarden/Gentle Dom. She also joined forces with Actress & Unknown Mortal Orchestra, who remixed two color theory tracks.

Combining her love of video games and performing, Soccer Mommy held a digital concert on the online gaming platform Club Penguin Rewritten, with 10,000+ attendees (who all had to make their own penguin avatars to attend). So many fans logged on originally that the game’s server *literally* crashed and the event had to be rescheduled. Soccer Mommy then embarked on another tour, of sorts: an 8-bit music video tour, hitting some of the cities she was meant to perform in on tour prior to lockdown.
