Share Debut Single “Common Blues”

Team Talk Records are proud to announce the release of “Common Blues”, the summery debut single from the new London duo Modern People.

“Common Blues” commences with this integral soundbite fused within the upbeat elevated rhythms. The outfit weaves this background noise so many of us have longed for some time, the general buzz of the environment. These bright and sweeping rhythmic sections emerge against these bold vocal notes that melodically create this feel-good impression against the complex instrumentation that emits the summer-kissed sun-soaked infliction. Intimate lyrics and this impressive percussive led beat. Modern People have infused this abundance of uplifting harmonies, a pure soulful touch, tender traits, and countless hooks- a pop sensation. This is a debut single release that already solidifies anthemic status. Easily the single of our collective summer.

“Common Blues” is the meeting of two very different minds, instrumentalist and producer Christian Pinchbeck of London alt-R&B band, Girlhood – who found praise last year for their s/t debut album from Stereogum, BBC 6 Music, Radio 1, Bandcamp Daily, The Line of Best Fit, Loud & Quiet, Clash and more – and Lewis Cardinal, a fresh new singer-songwriter from Cardiff. Lewis was stuck in a rut producing his own music and through friends of friends met Christian and they decided to experiment with writing together. The idea was that they would approach collaborating with no boundaries and no genre restrictions. The result is something bursting with celebratory energy about the power of music and the glory in the craft of making it.

Speaking about the debut single and new project, the Cardinal says: “The song came about from my yearning to perform live, envisaging a post lockdown party involving a mass jam session. Christian sent me a track that blended different rhythmic styles including house, afrobeat and Latino and I envisioned us all in one big room with the drinks flowing and the sound of laughter passing through. Picking up instruments one by one and playing through hours of various genres with no restrictions. Working on the song helped me overcome my feeling that musicians were being forgotten about and I could feel my love and passion for creating coming back.”

So, the “Common Blues” is the vision of like-minded musicians from wildly different genres jamming to a post lockdown groove. Maybe one day that vision will come to pass but for now, the recorded version of the new single is set to soundtrack the summer of 2021.
