Fuzz-Punk newcomers Mister Strange announce new EP ‘I’ for September 10th and deliver the latest fizzing cut from it – ‘Laughing Wall’ – out via cult Swedish label PNKSLM Recordings (ShitKid, Yung, HOLY).
Hailing from Manchester, the self-described ‘Wunder-Fuzz’ band Mister Strange explode into 2021 after creating significant buzz with a run of high-octane live shows in late 2019, and a couple of enticing early singles. New single ‘Laughing Wall’ follows ‘High Heel Heavy’ in delivering on this promise – channelling the crude, fuzz-punk clamour of The Stooges, The Ramones, and more recently, Ty Segall or Thee Oh Sees.
Squealing feedback ushers in a classic riff – with the track lurching here there and everywhere, a swirl of sweaty sonic limbs offering timeless catharsis. They’ve tapped into and drawn from the adrenaline fuelled vein of their fuzzy forebears, and it’s as exhilarating as ever.
Mister Strange have this absolute possessive quality, their energy is simply explosive which they manage to capture in their recordings. This fierce new ensemble is simply intoxicating.
“Laughing Wall” greets you with this piercing feedback before hurling you into the depth of this gargantuan wall of sound. The rebellious nature of Mister Strange emits at every single angle, notes, and abrasive element. These mighty rhythms, gritty tones, and intense vocal notes dominate this raucous ensemble. The outfit has mastered these deep grooves and endless fuzz-filled hooks. A raw and impressive instrumentation from the most compelling and fearless acts around right now.
The band are led by vocalist/drummer Tomas Walmsley (also of acclaimed band the Fruit Tones), and completed by Callum Rogers on bass, Ste Bradbury on guitar and synths, and Daryl Taylor on guitars. Together they have embroiled the heavy noises of punk, garage and psych into an electrifying smatter of organised chaos.
With previous projects garnering support from CLASH Magazine, So Young, Dork and Brooklyn Vegan, as well as airplay on BBC Radio 6, Mister Strange are operating from secure foundations. The band will showcase new music with upcoming live shows at Mabgate Bleach in Leeds and YES Manchester (dates TBC) and are set to announce a string of UK tour dates for Autumn.
