Piney Gir Releases New EP “Astral Spectra” Out Now via Reckless Yes

Piney Gir, who the Independent rightly called a “transatlantic pop guru” and who elsewhere has been labelled the ‘indie Dolly Parton’, has now returned with the phenomenal new EP release “Astral Spectra” out now via Reckless Yes. The new 4 track EP was released June 25th and digitally streaming now and available on limited CD.

The EP is described as having themes of witchcraft and honouring our ancestors with a view to embracing the now and improving our future. Piney’s deep appreciation of everything from ‘60s pop to psychedelia, classic rock to bubblegum pop shines through on songs which masterfully weave through time thematically and musically.

Tracklisting

  1. Voice of the Ages
  2. Breathe, Howl, Flower Moon
  3. Spirit Animal
  4. Astral Spectra

Voice of the Ages is the first single to commence the records’ proceedings and starts with this dramatic drum beat and immersive rhythm – immediately this vivid energy oozes from the alluring ambiance which is present throughout. Piney Gir brings this bold and theatrical attribute into the vision, a rhythmic surge and melody seemingly emit this 60’s charm. You embrace the personality of Piney Gir running through each bar, each beat and each delicate harmony. The lyrics deliver this intimate influence whilst the words are proudly delivered in this pop-infused influence. At the 2 minute mark the intensity erupts and this dedicated fuzz empowered riff runs amok and offers such an impressive cadence to the exploration, a dynamic transition showcasing how the power can provide this unpredictable alteration to the journey.

That energy simmers to allow the second track Breathe, Howl, Flower Moon to alter the atmosphere and provide a track channeling a calmer vibe, focusing on the intricate additional instrument notes that flutter throughout. The vocal harmonies are softer but covering such ground within their reach. This composition offers this essential emotion that you clasp onto, there’s a darker element to this creation bubbling underneath and that character captivates the audience’s attention as we study the lyrics to find Piney Gir flourishing within this story-telling setting.

Spirit Animal once again offers yet another ensemble capturing this artist in another light. Each track so far provides this vivid range, with this release a gentle movement pushes the release into this complex depth. The acoustic guitar notes echoing alongside the dominant vocal tones which soar above the instrumentation to become the focus of the release. The standout vocal melodies and bright tone deliver this stunning clarity.

Finally, the record ends on the EP title track Astral Spectra. That soft atmosphere that came before, that’s no more. Once again another shift in the proceedings to allow a bolder arrangement to becomes the promising finale. The pop attributes flirt amongst the compelling journey, this track embraces this hypnotic motion and oozes this contemporary warmth. A serious Bowie vibe embellishes this ensemble, the lyrics insightful yet playful as they create this clear picture for the audience to see.

The entire EP provides this complex and comprehensive journey, each track seems to occupy a diverse emotional appeal. Piney Gir has crafted a record that captures this profound range of their abilities, from tender traits focusing on the intimate lyrics and delicate vocal harmonies to vivacious experimental passages fixating on the intensity and energetic impression from this artist. The EP is simply infectious, with 4 unique ensembles captivating the listener with their dynamic ambiance and sublime range, rich textures, ambitious landscapes and explosive emotional characteristics.
