Shares New Single, “For Love”
LISTEN
Out via Felte

The Vancouver, B.C.-based songwriter, Ashley Shadow is returning with her new single, “For Love”, out via Felte. The single, recorded and mixed by Joshua Wells (Destroyer, Lightning Dust, ex-Black Mountain), arrives as the first new music from the artist since 2016’s eponymous self-titled debut which found support from Stereogum, Pitchfork, The A.V. Club, KEXP, Brooklyn Vegan, FLOOD, Under the Radar, and more.

“For Love”, a track conceived in contemplative solitude, maintains the moody introspection that is ingrained in Pacific Northwest life, however, as opposed to the debut record, Shadow now comes armed with a palpable sense of hope to accompany her signature melancholy. Swaying percussion opens the track with lightly strummed guitar, complemented by Ashley’s confident vibrato that oscillates between.

Speaking about the single, Ashley says: “Over the past couple years, I bore witness to friends and family going through big shifts in their lives that brought on some tough endings and new beginnings. “For Love” is a song that commemorates the action of leaving something you love for something you love more.”

“For Love” will reach you and move you, a deeply beautiful arrangement. Delicate harmonies and intimate lyrics, a direct progressive beat, and prominent drum shuffle moves the bright chords and finds a suitable bed for the intricate and warming vocal melodies to collide against. Ashely’s vocal tone provides this comforting warmth throughout the exploration, we hang on to every word and the emotive melody from the direction pull of that word.

Ashley, the twin sister of Amber Webber (of Lightning Dust, co-founder of Black Mountain), has previously contributed vocals to Bonnie “Prince” Billy’s album, Lie Down in the Light, Pink Mountaintop’s Outside Love and The Cave Singers’ Welcome Joy
