Foxxglove Set To Release New Single “Bad Timing” due 14th May

Single Review

Foxxglove is a name we urge you to familiarize yourselves with. The artist, hailing from Ferndale in South Wales has already got this impressive history to their work. Described as taking inspiration from her own life experiences, films, and art to tell a story that captures people’s hearts; her raw and open emotion seeps through every part of her music. This is something you are soon to experience with Foxxglove‘s forthcoming new single.

Our annual end of year feature for 2020 soon had Foxxglove appearing in a lot of submissions as their ones to watch for 2021, now Foxxglove are ready to dominate this year.

Foxxglove began working alongside producer & artist Minas, part of the PRS Foundation backed artist development scheme: Forté Project in 2019. In 2020 Foxxglove received support from the BBC’s launchpad scheme for artists. She has also performed at Swn Festival and supported the fast-rising UK rockers Holding Absence.

Now, Foxxglove returns with her flawless new single “Bad Timing” which is set for release Friday 14th May 2021 and will be available on all streaming/digital download platforms. You can pre-save the single here –

The new single is described as “a heart wrenching alt-pop ballad gives the listener a deeply personal insight into her life; about a profoundly dark time within a relationship”.

Speaking about the track Foxxglove says, “This song is about a specific relationship, where the person broke my heart in an emotionally manipulative and frustrating manner. He fought for my attention at the start, led me on and ended up gaslighting me. The most important part of a song for me is the lyrics, that’s how I write my music at the moment and I hope people can be empathetic to the emotional weight they carry. This song represents closure to me and I hope others can find solace within the song; knowing they aren’t alone in their feelings.”

The raw, emotional and uncensored lyrics are put front and centre of the song and are backed, with a simplistic yet powerful production by MINAS. He builds from a simple stripped back piano to more chaotic layers that mirror the emotions on the track. “I sent a raw song of lyrics and melody to MINAS via a voice note, he worked his magic and it perfectly captures how I feel about the song.”

The new single is such a raw composition, the stunning vocal harmonies and the tender lyrics has this impressive ability to alter the mood of the audience, the delicacy of this release will raise hairs on the listener’s arms for this is an absolute striking ensemble. Not only has the lyrics of the release captured this intimate and honest drive but the vocal notes capture their own emotion. The way the artist projects the words, deeply enriched with emotional attributes, this is the powerful hook to the arrangement. Foxxglove can connect such affection with the body of this release, that the words become the harrowing embodiment of “Bad Timing”. For an artist to relay such a complex range of emotions within their work resonates with the wealth of names backing this prominent musician. Foxxglove‘s forthcoming single solidifies the talent of this powerful musician.

Bad Timing” starts with some delicate piano keys that open the initial minimalist ambiance to this creation, the striking vocal tones soon emerge and instantly captivate your full attention. As this broad range of vocal notes delivers this personal culture, the intricate notes surround the vocal notes and enhance the intensity with the flourishing mix of sustained keys and a bold, prominent driving drum beat that joins the arrangement well over halfway. The intimacy of this release allows the artist to break down those barriers that usually keep the musician at arm’s length to the audience, that barrier quickly diminishes and what we are left with is this staggering performance where the audience is in the center of this moving creation. At only 2 minutes 33 seconds, the exploration covers a wealth of ground within the timeframe. An expressive piece that flawlessly captures this honest fragility yet allows enough space for those feelings to be released whilst resonating with this fearless execution. We understand the pain of the wordsmith and the verse, yet by the final few notes we feel the change from the artist whilst performing/recording this piece, the change becomes a cathartic breakthrough from Foxxglove. The energy transitions to looking ahead from the pain. This mixed with the moody instrumentation will leave you in awe.

Foxxglove has recently announced that she will support LASTELLE on Thursday 26th August at The Moon Club, Cardiff as part of their UK tour. Tickets Here
