SQUID

Release final single ‘Pamphlets’ from debut album Bright Green Field out 7th May via Warp Records

Announce first US headline tour dates

Squid are releasing ‘Pamphlets’, the third and final single from their forthcoming debut album Bright Green Field. Produced by Dan Carey, the album will be released 7th May via Warp Records

Squid lull you into this false sense of security and their madness just mesmerizes you. Their renowned complex tone shines instantly against the rolling and attentive drum beats and rhythms that fiercely dominate the soundscape, never once shying into the background but always consistently continuing the compelling drive. The angular guitar notes and riffs join the atmosphere and add this brighter depth before the bold vocal harmonies and playful lyrics add this addictive hook. Each musician brings such forcible energy to their notes, their colliding instrumentation, and their space. Squid manipulate their chaos as the release progresses into its ferocious journey, they build this sonic structure and continue to add complex layers into their work. This chaos we talk about just consumes you and leaves you in awe looking back at the soaring sounds that propel you into Squid‘s fierce vision.

As we’ve said previously, Squid has delivered once again, another absolutely shattering exploration from this profound outfit. Their energy will consume you, this infectious and grand landscape crafted as the track develops throughout, it’s an impressive journey and simply engulfs you. Squid have perfected the art of each musician having enough space and freedom within their far-reaching tracks to truly showcase the impressive talent of that player. Each musician has this platform to find their role which results in this deep layer of intricate elements and biting beats.

This album will be album of the year, there is no doubt about that. One of the most essential outfits we’ve got right now. Innovative and inspiring, easily the most enthralling acts of our time.

Ollie on the single, “It’s about all the rubbish right-wing propaganda you get through your front door. It imagines a person with that as their only source of news being taken over by these pamphlets.”

Squid recently recorded a “live to vinyl” session for Record Store Day which was also broadcast live on Steve Lamacq’s BBC 6 Music show, for which they enlisted string and horn players for a brand new arrangement. Previous singles ‘Paddling’ and ‘Narrator’ have both landed on the BBC 6 Music A-List, drawn great critical acclaim and heightened the anticipation for one of the most exciting debut albums of the year.

Bright Green Field features field recordings of ringing church bells, tooting bees, microphones swinging from the ceiling orbiting a room of guitar amps, a distorted choir of 30 voices as well as a horn and string ensemble featuring the likes of, Emma-Jean Thackray and Lewis Evans from Black Country, New Road. However, for all the innovative recording techniques, evolutionary leaps, lyrical themes, ideas and narratives that underpin the album, it’s also a joyous and emphatic record. One, that marries the uncertainties of the world with a curious sense of exploration, as it endlessly twists and turns down unpredictable avenues.
